A tissue cutting device has a blade that pivots to pierce through tissue and translates to cut tissue, thereby providing a clean and smooth cut through tissue. The blade is coupled to an axial rod. Axial displacement of the axial rod pivots the blade and imparts axial displacement to the blade.

A surgical access device includes a seal assembly, an upper housing portion, a lower housing portion, and a tubular member. The seal assembly has an instrument seal and is coupled to the upper housing portion. A first valve is partially disposed in an upper chamber of the upper housing portion and a second valve is partially disposed in a lower chamber of the lower housing portion. A valve assembly extends from the upper housing portion and is in fluid communication with the upper chamber. A source of insufflation fluid is attachable to the valve assembly.

A surgical instrument includes a decoupling mechanism and a loading unit. The decoupling mechanism includes a driver coupling, an overstroke sled, a proximal driver, and a distal driver. The overstroke sled includes bosses configured to slidably engage slots of the driver coupling. The distal driver is coupled to a housing of the driver coupling for concomitant rotation therewith. A drive assembly of the loading unit is coupled to the distal driver such that rotation of the distal driver causes axial displacement of the drive assembly. The decoupling mechanism is transitionable between a first state, in which, rotation of the proximal driver of the decoupling mechanism rotates the driver coupling and the distal driver, thereby advancing the drive assembly, and a second state, in which, rotation of the proximal driver disengages the overstroke sled from the driver coupling to enable rotation of the overstroke sled relative to the driver coupling.

A surgical instrument includes a housing, an elongated portion, and a loading unit. The elongated portion extends distally from the housing, defines a longitudinal axis, and includes an electrical contact. The loading unit is configured to releasably engage the elongated portion. The loading unit includes an electronic component, a proximal portion including an electrical contact in electrical communication with the electronic component, and an end effector coupled to the proximal portion and configured to manipulate tissue. Engagement between the elongated portion and the loading unit causes the electrical contact of the elongated portion to engage the electrical contact of the loading unit thereby electrically connecting the elongated portion and the loading unit.

A surgical clip applier includes a handle assembly, an elongated shaft, a drive shaft, a cam pin, and an end effector. The cam pin is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the drive shaft. The end effector is disposed in operative engagement with the drive shaft such that longitudinal translation of the drive shaft relative to the housing of the handle assembly causes the first jaw member to move toward the second jaw member. A coupling is included having a bore defined therein for receiving a cable from an electrosurgical device therethrough, the cable including active and ground leads. The coupling has a flange extending therefrom defining a receptacle therein configured to operably receive a plug connected to a second end of the ground wire. The receptacle is configured to provide electrical continuity between the ground lead disposed within the cable and the plug coupled to the ground wire which, in turn, provides electrical continuity to the ground plate.

A surgical stapling device includes a tool assembly and a drive assembly for actuating the tool assembly. The tool assembly includes a cartridge assembly having a staple cartridge and an anvil assembly that supports a lockout mechanism. The actuation sled and knife assembly is movable in relation to the cartridge body to eject staples from the cartridge body and to cut tissue. The anvil assembly supports a lockout mechanism that includes a lockout member that is movable between a locked position and an unlocked position. The drive assembly is movable from a retracted position to an advanced position to move the actuation sled and knife assembly from its retracted position to its advanced position. In the locked position, the lockout member obstructs movement of the drive assembly from its retracted position towards its advanced position.

An electrosurgical pencil includes a body. The body includes a track extending along a distal end of the body. A treatment blade extends from the distal end of the body and is electrically connected to a first potential of a source of electrosurgical energy. A protective guard is configured to slide along a track between a first position concealing a distal end of the treatment blade and a second position exposing the distal end of the treatment blade. A biasing member includes a first end operably connected to the distal end of the body and a second end operably connected to the protective guard.

A tissue guard for use with a surgical access device includes a proximal ring having proximal and distal ends, the distal end configured to operably couple to a ground ring that ultimately electrically connects to an electrical ground. One or more mechanical interfaces extend about the proximal ring and are configured to mechanically engage a rim of an access device to secure the tissue guard thereon. A retention body is configured to operably couple to a distal end of the ground ring, the retention body including a distal end configured to operably engage the access device to secure the tissue guard therein.
