An intelligent television system provides an operating system and an application framework for controlling a user interface to handle user input events from a handheld remote control. The method also includes detecting a command for the control interface to select one of the plurality of tab elements, and updating presentation of the control interface in response to the second command, wherein the digital television presents a selected tab element with expanded configuration and provides a plurality of graphical elements.
