A measurement system includes: a sensor wire comprising an insertable portion configured to be inserted in a blood vessel of a patient's body; a sensor disposed at the insertable portion at a distal end of the sensor wire, wherein the sensor is configured to provide an output indicative of a temperature in the blood vessel of the patient's body, when inserted inside the blood vessel of the patient's body; and a transceiver unit configured to transfer information related to the output of the sensor to an external communication module using a frequency hopping technique. The transceiver unit comprises a housing adapted to be connected to a proximal end of the sensor wire and configured to remain external to the patient's body.

Measurement system

A blood pressure measurement system comprising a pressure sensor guide wire comprising a pressure sensor located in a distal region of the pressure sensor guide wire that is configured to be inserted into a blood vessel of a human body and a transceiver unit communicatively coupled to the pressure sensor guide wire. The transceiver unit comprises a housing adapted to be used external to the human body, a sensor signal adapting circuitry configured to process pressure sensor values generated by the pressure sensor to create processed pressure sensor values, and a first transceiver configured to wirelessly transmit a signal representing the processed pressure sensor values using first, second, and third packets at first, second, and third frequencies.

A blood pressure measurement system comprises: a pressure sensor guide wire comprising a pressure sensor located in a distal region of the pressure sensor guide wire; a transceiver unit communicatively coupled to the pressure sensor guide wire, the transceiver unit comprising: a housing adapted to be used external to the human body, a sensor signal adapting circuitry configured to process a signal representing a pressure reading sensed by the pressure sensor to create a processed pressure reading, and a first Bluetooth transceiver configured to wirelessly transmit a signal representing the processed pressure reading; and a second Bluetooth transceiver configured to wirelessly receive the signal representing the processed pressure reading transmitted from the first Bluetooth transceiver, wherein the second Bluetooth transceiver is connected with a personal computer that is configured to display a value representing the processed pressure reading.

The present invention relates to a system and a method of measuring a physiological variable in a body. A basic idea of the present invention is to measure a physiological variable in a body by means of employing a sensor () which is arranged to be disposed in the body for measuring the physiological variable. The sensor must be provided with a supply voltage in order to be operable. Therefore, a control unit () disposed outside the body provides this supply voltage to the sensor. The control unit also receives, from the sensor, via a wired connection (), signals that represent the physiological variables that are measured. The control unit is arranged with a communication interface () and a modulator () for wireless spread spectrum communication of the measured physiological variables for presentation purposes.

Wireless communication of physiological variables using spread spectrum

A measurement system may comprise a sensor wire, a sensor, and a transceiver unit. The sensor wire may comprise an insertable portion configured to be inserted in a blood vessel of a patient's body. The sensor is disposed within the insertable portion at a distal end of the sensor wire. The sensor is configured to measure or detect a non-physiological parameter when inserted inside the patient. The transceiver unit is adapted to generate a communication signal and to transfer information related to the non-physiological parameter to an external communication module using the communication signal. The communication signal includes sensor values related to the non-physiological parameter. The transceiver unit may comprise a housing adapted to be connected to a proximal end of the sensor wire and configured to remain external to the patient's body.

The communication signal, including sensor values, is generated by the transceiver unit and transferred as a data stream. The housing is configured to remain external to the patient's body.

Sensor wire assembly for measuring a physiological variable in a body, said assembly comprises a sensor element for measuring the physiological variable and to generate a sensor signal in response of said variable, and a guide wire having said sensor element at its distal end, and adapted to be inserted into the body in order to position the sensor element within the body. The assembly further comprises a sensor signal adapting circuitry, being an integrated part of said assembly, wherein the sensor signal is applied to the adapting circuitry that is adapted to automatically generate an output signal, related to the sensor signal, in a standardized format such that the measured physiological variable is retrievable by an external physiology monitor.

Sensor wire assembly

Pressure measurement system comprising a pressure sensor wire with a pressure sensor to measure pressure inside a patient, and to provide measured pressure data to an external device. The pressure sensor wire is adapted to be connected, at its proximal end, to a transceiver unit that is adapted to wirelessly communicate via a communication signal with a communication unit arranged in connection with an external device, in order to transfer measured pressure data to the external device. The pressure data to be transferred is generated by the transceiver unit and transferred as a data stream. Preferably, the communication signal is a radio frequency signal.

Transceiver unit in a pressure measurement system

The present invention relates to a sensor assembly arranged to be disposed in a body for measuring a physiological variable. A basic idea of the present invention is to provide a sensor and guide wire assembly which communicates with an external unit by an inductive coupling between a first coil provided in the sensor assembly and a second, external coil which is disposed in or connected to the external unit. The external unit is preferably the same unit that is used to numerically or graphically display the physiological variables that are measured with the sensor and guide wire assembly. With the terminology introduced above, it should here be clear that both the signal transfer from the sensor as well as the energy feeding from the external unit to the sensor may be accomplished through the inductive coupling between the first and second coils.
