A scalable Internet of Things (IoT) system may include multiple instances of an IoT manager, each instance respectively configured to connect to a respective edge system of multiple edge systems. The IoT system may further include a containerized system configured to allow any instance of the IoT manager to deploy data pipelines to any edge system of the multiple edge systems in delta communications. Any instance of the IoT manager may send a change message to any edge system via a publish/subscribe notification method. In some examples, a centralized IoT manager may form a secure communication with an edge system, synchronize an object model with an edge object model for the edge system, and maintain the edge system using delta change communications. The IoT system may facilitate any instance of the IoT manager to subscribe a communication channel with an associated edge system for receiving update notification.

Communication and synchronization with edge systems

A centralized Internet of Things (IoT) manager of an IoT system is configured generate and deploy a data pipeline application to an edge system. The centralized IoT manager is configured to receive a request for a data category and identification of a data transformation function, identify a data source of the IoT system belonging to the data category, and identify an edge system of the IoT system associated with the data source. The centralized IoT manager is further configured to generate a containerized data pipeline application based on a configuration of the edge system that is configured apply the data transformation function to input data to provide transformed data, and provide the containerized data pipeline application to the edge system.

Apparatuses and methods for edge computing application deployment

A platform-as-a-service (PaaS) manager abstracts deployment of PaaS software stacks to different computing platforms such that the PaaS software stacks provide a common platform to host an application despite differences in the underlying architectures of the computing platforms. Each PaaS software stack is hosted on a service domain installed on a respective one of the computing platforms, and includes an operating system and provides access to a set of services for execution of applications. Embodiments perform capability discovery, policy management, and policy enforcement to provide data in-flight (DIF) services to virtual machines (VMs) without requiring modification to established storage protocols. In exemplary embodiments, a management device receives advertisements of DIF services supported by network nodes. The management device groups the advertised DIF services into a DIF services policy. The management device associates a host and a communication path. The management device enforces the DIF services policy by storing a unique number that causes transmission of data along the communication path.

Described herein is technology for, among things, a distributed transaction system. The distributed transaction system includes a number of computing entities and a data storage unit in communication with the computing entities. The data storage unit is operable to store a file system that is accessible by the computing entities. The data storage unit is also operable to store a number of transaction journals corresponding to respective computing entities. The transaction journals describe transactions of the computing entities on the file system. A particular computing entity is operable to maintain a respective transaction journal without communicating with the other computing entities.
