An image reading apparatus determines an inclination amount corresponding to an inclination angle of a leading edge of an original document in a conveyance direction, and determines the length of the original document in the conveyance direction. The image reading apparatus sets a first value as a set value in a case that the length of the original document is a first length and sets a second value larger than the first value as the set value in a case that the length of the original document is a second length shorter than the first length. If the inclination amount is smaller than the set value, inclination correction for correcting the image represented by the image data is performed such that the inclination amount is reduced, and if the inclination amount is larger than the set value, the inclination correction is not performed.

Image reading apparatus

A piston ring in which carbon films with film qualities optimized to be adapted to required performance are formed on an outer circumferential sliding surface and top and bottom surfaces thereof with good productivity is provided, and a high-performance engine which employs the piston ring is also provided. In the piston ring, a carbon film is formed on an outer circumferential sliding surface and top and bottom surfaces. The carbon film contains a stacking of at least two types of carbon film layers with different film qualities, and a thickness ratio of the two types of carbon film layers is different between the outer circumferential sliding surface and the top and bottom surfaces.

Piston ring and method for manufacturing same

A carbon fiber composite material () is provided which includes carbon fibers (), a matrix () binding the carbon fibers () together, and pores (), and a volume fraction of the carbon fibers () exclusive of the pores () is not less than 45% and up to 80%. The carbon fiber composite material () may preferably have a porous structure of which a porosity is not more than 20% and up to 70%. This carbon fiber composite material () has a high static friction coefficient (&#x3bc;S), and low &#x3bc; ratio, and thus is suitable for a wet friction member (e.g., carbon disc) which is excellent in both of static friction performance and dynamic friction performance.

Wet friction member

A friction member for a frictional engagement device is provided in which weight is reduced, impact resistance is enhanced and sliding resistance is improved; and also provided is a method for producing the same. As a friction member () for a frictional engagement device, a friction member made of a carbon fiber/carbonaceous composite material is provided which is obtained by implementing a heat treatment on a precursor, the precursor comprising a matrix composed of a carbon binder and an additive and carbon fiber dispersed in the matrix, wherein a porosity of the friction member is 20-60%.

Friction member for frictional engagement device and method for producing the same

The present invention provides a wet friction member exhibiting excellent dynamic friction performance and a carbon fiber composite material for manufacturing the wet friction member. A carbon fiber composite materialof the present invention contains carbon fibersand a matrixjoining the carbon fiberswith each other, and the matrix has fine pores having diameters of 3.5 nm to 100 nm. Since the fine pores having diameters of a nanometer (nm) order is formed in the matrixof the carbon fiber composite material, the specific surface area of the carbon fiber composite materialis increased. As a result, a wet friction member made of the carbon fiber composite materialhas an improved dynamic friction performance.

A microphone unit particularly adapted to be used as a built-in microphone for a device such as a tape recorder in which vibration-induced components in the output of the microphone are substantially eliminated. An electret-type microphone element is mounted in a cylindrical-shaped microphone case having a central wall. A ceramic piezoelectric element is secured against the wall with a weight pressing against the opposite side of the piezoelectric element. The outputs of the microphone element and the piezoelectric vibration pickup unit are combined in a circuit in which the characteristics of the output of the piezoelectric element are corrected so that substantially all of the vibration-induced component from the microphone element is cancelled.

Microphone with vibration cancellation

A dynamic microphone in which vibrations transmitted to the case of the microphone are cancelled over a very wide frequency range. A moving coil type microphone unit sensitive to sound and a moving coil type vibration pickup unit sensitive to vibrations transmitted to the case of the microphone are provided in the case with a common magnetic circuit. The outputs of the moving coil vibration unit are coupled to the outputs of the microphone unit in opposite phase so that noise components corresponding to the vibrations transmitted to the case are cancelled.

Dynamic microphone

At least one spiraled semi-circular shaped coil is printed on each surface of a wafer. The coil on a first surface of the wafer is arranged in such a manner that it is rotated 90 degrees with respect to the coil on a second surface thereof. In one embodiment, two such printed coils are symmetrically provided on each surface of the wafer, and the pattern of the printed coils on the first surface is arranged to be rotated 90 degrees with respect to the pattern of the printed coils on the second surface thereof. The spiraling directions of the coils on the same surface are inverse or opposite each other. The inner terminals of the coils on each surface are connected and an output is taken out from the outer terminals thereof, or vice versa. A printed coil is employed, for example, in a moving coil type pick-up cartridge.
