Provided is a thermally insulated insert member and an engine having the thermally insulated insert member. Thermally insulated insert member is disposed in an intake port of a cylinder head of the engine. The thermally insulated insert member includes a guide member that guides a flow of intake air flowing in t he intake port; and a thermally insulative support member with a shape that can be fitted within the intake port. The guide member is formed of a metal and is supported in the intake port via the thermally insulative support member.

An internal combustion engine includes an anisotropic thermal conductivity member () provided on a wall surface defining a cylinder or a wall surface of a cooling water passage on a side of the cylinder, a thermal conductivity of the anisotropic thermal conductivity member in an axial direction of the cylinder being higher than a thermal conductivity of the anisotropic thermal conductivity member in a radial direction of the cylinder, and a thermally insulating member () provided on an outer surface of the anisotropic thermal conductivity member with respect to the radial direction of the cylinder.

Internal combustion engine

An engine includes: a cylinder block; and a piston ring, in which the cylinder block has a cylinder liner portion formed of an aluminum-based composite reinforced by a ceramic containing at least either of a silicon carbide and an alumina, and in which the piston ring is coated with a nitride film () including a vanadium nitride layer () exposed on an outer circumferential sliding surface ().

The ceramic molded body of the present invention includes spherical cells of a spherical bubble plurally formed therein: in the ceramic molded body the spherical cells neighboring each other are communicated through communication porosities and form a three-dimensional network structure, and a ratio (M/M) of a median (M) of inner diameters of the communication porosities to a median (M) of inner diameters of the spherical cells is less than 0.5. In the ceramic molded body used for manufacturing a metal matrix composite, a metal is filled within the spherical cells and the communication porosities.

In a cylinder block, at least one member disposed around a bore is made of a metal matrix composite including a ceramic compact having a three-dimensional mesh structure comprised of a plurality of spherical cells and a plurality of communicating pores for allowing adjacent spherical cells to communicate with each other, with the plurality of spherical cells filled with a metal.
