An electric-power conversion apparatus has a heat sink in which one side portion out of a pair of side portions that extend in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction of a motor is formed shorter than the other side portion thereof; a lower case to which the heat sink is fixed is fastened to a driving apparatus through the intermediary of fixing portions at the both end portions of each of the pair of side portions of the heat sink or at respective positions in the vicinity of the both end portions of each of the pair of side portions of the heat sink; at least one of a reactor and capacitors is disproportionately disposed to be closer to said one side portion than to said the other side portion of the heat sink.

A method and apparatus to reliably detect failure in a voltage sensor which detects battery voltage, without erroneous determination, is provided. A current sensor detects charge/discharge current of a battery. The method comprises calculating a charge/discharge current change amount based on the current detected by the current sensor. A voltage sensor detects voltage of the battery. The method also comprises calculating a voltage change amount based on the voltage detected by the voltage sensor. If the charge/discharge current change amount is equal to or greater than a predetermined value and the voltage change amount is smaller than a failure determination value, it is determined that the voltage sensor has failed.

In order to detect failure of a charge/discharge current sensor for a battery and estimate and manage the state of charge of the battery when the charge/discharge current sensor has failed, provided are: a state-of-charge estimation unit for estimating the state of charge of the battery; an operation current estimation unit for estimating operation current of an electric load connected to the battery; and a charge/discharge current sensor failure detection unit for determining that failure occurs on the charge/discharge current sensor for detecting charge/discharge current of the battery, when a difference between the charge/discharge current and the operation current estimation value is equal to or greater than a predetermined value, wherein, when failure of the charge/discharge current sensor is detected, the electric load is operated at low output, and the state of charge of the battery is estimated using the operation current estimation value.

This in-vehicle DC-DC converter is configured from: a power conversion unit that transmits/receives power between a low-voltage system secondary battery and a high-voltage system secondary battery; low-voltage system AD converters and high-voltage system AD converters, which convert analog values of the currents, voltages, and temperatures of the low-voltage system secondary battery and the high-voltage system secondary battery into digital values; an input switching unit that switches analog values of the high-voltage system secondary battery into analog values of the corresponding low-voltage system secondary battery; and a calculation unit that compares the digital values of the low-voltage system AD converters and the digital values of the high-voltage system AD converters with each other. An auxiliary battery which is a main power supply is used as power source electric power supplying means for supplying power source electric power to a control device, and an auxiliary power supply is further provided. When an abnormality occurs in the auxiliary battery, the power supply for supplying power source electric power to the control device is switched from the auxiliary battery to the auxiliary power supply by a power supply switching device, to operate the control device stably and perform discharging of a battery.
