An image processing device for controlling data transfer includes an image scanner, an image printer, a facsimile control unit, bus lines for data transfer, a bidirectional parallel interface unit, and a main CPU in a housing. The device is connected to an external data processing device through the parallel interface unit. In addition to the functions which are obtained independent from the external data processing device, the image processing device realizes various kinds of functions by controlling the image scanner, the image printer facsimile control unit and the interface unit by the main CPU in response to commands from the data processing device. As a result, various kinds of image processing functions are carried out.

A computer system is disclosed which has an automatic answering telephone function. The system comprises a main control unit, a telephone control unit, a voice information storage medium, a program unit for automatic telephone answering and processing, a program unit for performing data processing, and a mode setting circuit for setting the automatic telephone answering and the data processing to be performed. A programmable calculator is disclosed which has a plurality of keys each having a unique definition as an input key for introduction of instruction statements and constants through associated definition instructions. A character printing system in an electronic data processing apparatus is provided that is adapted for printing language characters in response to numerical value coded data entered through numeral keys of a keyboard, each character being represented by a respective numerical value coded data of a predetermined convention, wherein said language characters comprises at least two kinds of language characters, such as upper case type alphabet characters and lower case type alphabet characters, or English alphabet characters and Japanese kana characters, or the like, and the keyboard includes language character code entry mode key and language character kind specifying key as well as numeral keys and ordinary commanding keys, and a printer operable responsive to a storage for storing information entered through said keyboard is controlled by a print control responsive to said storage, whereby said printer is controlled to selectively print numerical value coded data in a kind of language characters specified by the information entered through language character kind specifying key. Since at least two kinds of language characters can be selected through mere entry operation by means of the language character kind specifying key, an increased number of language characters can be identified with numerical value coded data of a less number of digits.

A memory clear method useful to clear a plurality of words contained in a memory from a specific address to an address at the same time. An address register is provided for this purpose. In one preferred form, the address register is responsive to a CX key indicating a memory clear operation, a , key indicating start of the memory clear operation and 0 to 9 digit keys identifying a memory address for the memory clear operation.
