A dot matrix type liquid crystal display panel is used with a central processor unit for displaying a message longer than the capacity of the display panel. The beginning portion of the message of a length equal to the capacity of the display panel is first displayed at one time and held on the display panel for a limited length of time facilitating the viewers' recognition of the meaning of the message. When the repeated display of the message is desired, the display state where the end of the message is in alignment with the last digit position of the display panel is held for a given length of time. The first and final holdings of the message results in enhancing legibility of the display contents on the panel.

Running character display

There is disclosed an information display system for displaying information. Information such as an English sentence 'May I ask you to post this letter?' is first stored word by word in a first memory means. 'May I ask you to post' is fetched from the first memory means and loaded into a second memory means for displaying the same on a display panel. After a predetermined period of time has gone on, the display is shifted by the number of characters in the next succeeding word to be displayed, i.e., four characters in 'this' to establish a length of blank digits necessary for displaying 'this'. Subsequent to the shift operation the blank digits of a display panel is filled with 'this'. The process continues on a word for word basis until the complete sentence has been displayed.

Alphanumeric display controlled by microprocessor

A display such as a liquid crystal display unit, a light emitting diode assembly, or an electroluminescent element is arranged behind a front glass window of a mirror for indicating, for example, current time information or calculator output information. A switching means is provided for controlling the enabling and disabling of the display. The display section forms a part of the mirror when the display is not enabled. In a preferred form, a liquid crystal display unit of the reflection type is attached to the rear surface of the front glass window of the mirror. The reflection film of the liquid crystal display unit functions as a reflection film of the mirror when the display is disabled, thereby forming a continuous mirror assembly even at the display section. That is, there is no distinction between the display region and the normal mirror region.

Mirror with information display

A liquid crystal display cell of the reflection type comprises a substrate on which reflection electrodes are formed, a transparent substrate on which transparent electrodes are formed and a liquid crystal composition filled between said two substrates. Activating voltage signals are applied between said two electrodes, thereby to drive the liquid crystal display cell to display desired symbols. A reflection film is formed on at least one of said two substrates in such a manner that the reflection film is electrically isolated from said reflection electrodes and the reflection film covers a position where the symbols are never displayed, or the reflection electrodes are not formed. The visibility of the information displayed on the liquid crystal cell can be enhanced because the reflection electrodes and the reflection film, in combination, cover the display panel uniformly.
