An image forming apparatus includes a conveyance unit conveying a recording medium in contact with the recording medium's one surface along a conveyance path, a first image forming group, a second image forming group, a first intermediate transfer body being transferred a toner image formed by the first image forming group, a second intermediate transfer body being transferred a toner image formed by the second image forming group, a first transfer unit transferring the toner image from the first intermediate transfer body to the recording medium's other surface, and a second transfer unit transferring the toner image from the second intermediate transfer body to the recording medium's other surface. The first image forming group, the first intermediate transfer body, the second intermediate transfer body, and the second image forming group are located the other surface side of the recording medium in this order in a conveyance direction.

An image forming apparatus includes a conveyance unit that conveys a recording medium in contact with one surface of the recording medium along a conveyance path; a plural intermediate transfer bodies that are arranged in a conveyance direction on the other surface side of the recording medium of the conveyance path and to which toner images formed by a plural image forming sections are primarily transferred; a plural secondary transfer units that are arranged in a conveyance direction and secondarily transfers the toner images of the plural intermediate transfer bodies to the other surface of the recording medium conveyed by the conveyance unit; and one or more rotating bodies of which peripheral surfaces are in contact with the other surface of the recording medium conveyed by the conveyance unit between one secondary transfer unit and another secondary transfer unit, among the secondary transfer units arranged in the conveyance direction.

A transfer device includes: an endless member in an endless shape that orbits; primary transfer members that are respectively arranged on an opposite side of plural image holding bodies disposed side by side in a circumference direction of the endless member with the endless member interposed between the primary transfer member and the image holding body, and transfer an image held by the image holding body to the endless member; a secondary transfer member that transfers the image transferred to the endless member to a recording medium; an applying roll around which the endless member is wound, that is disposed on a downstream side of all the primary transfer members and on an upstream side of the secondary transfer member in the circumference direction, and that urges the endless member from an inner peripheral surface of the endless member to apply tension to the endless member; an upstream roll around which the endless member is wound, and that is disposed on the downstream side of all the primary transfer members and on an upstream side of the applying roll in the circumference direction; a contact and detachment member that moves at least some of the plural primary transfer members, and contacts and detaches the endless member and the image holding body to change a posture of the endless member; a detection member that faces a portion of the endless member between the upstream roll and the applying roll to detect the image transferred to the endless member; and a positioning mechanism that changes a posture of the detection member according to the change in the posture of the endless member to position the detection member at the endless member.

A light irradiation device includes a light emitting unit, a cooling unit, a supply unit, and a driving unit. The light emitting unit emits light while generating heat. The cooling unit includes a channel through which a coolant flows, a first surface on which the light emitting unit is mounted, and a second surface that faces a direction opposite to the first surface. The supply unit is disposed facing the second surface in one direction that the second surface faces and supplies the coolant to the cooling unit. The driving unit is disposed facing the second surface in the one direction and includes a driving board that drives the light emitting unit.

An image forming apparatus includes an object disposed in an apparatus body so as to be capable of being taken out through an opening; an opening-closing portion that is rotatable and that covers the opening and rotates upward to open the opening; and an operating portion that is rotatable and disposed in front of the opening-closing portion. The operating portion is disposed at a position on a rotation trajectory along which the opening-closing portion rotates upward and on a path along which the object is taken out of the apparatus body. The operating portion rotates forward so as to be retracted from the rotation trajectory and the path along which the object is taken out and so that the path along which the object is taken out is formed between the operating portion and the opening-closing portion in the open state.

A cover structure including a cover member movable between open and closed positions relative to an apparatus body, a supporting member that includes one end portion fixed to the cover member and another end portion attached to the apparatus body, the supporting member supports the cover member in the open position thereof, the apparatus body includes an engaging member that engages the supporting member to resist the movement of the supporting member and engages a portion of the supporting member when the cover member is in the closed position to maintain the cover member in the closed position.
