When a time point of occurrence of a stop state of a fuel cell system is predicted during traveling, a drying state control that causes a fuel cell stack to transition to a dry state is started a predetermined time (a required drying time) before the predicted time point of occurrence of the stop state.

Fuel cell vehicle and method of stopping the same

An ECU of a fuel cell vehicle determines whether the vehicle travels on an uphill road or not. When determining that the vehicle travels on the uphill road, the ECU performs at least one of a temperature reduction control for reducing the temperature of a fuel cell stack and a humidification control for increasing the water content of the fuel cell stack, by the time the vehicle reaches the uphill road.

Fuel cell vehicle and method of operating the same

A fuel cell vehicle is mounted with a fuel cell system including a fuel cell stack and a battery. The fuel cell vehicle controls operation of the fuel cell system with an ECU, to perform standby power generation from activation to when travel is allowed and to perform power generation during operation of the fuel cell vehicle after travel has been allowed. In an activation method, the power generation current is increased in accordance with a low-temperature efficiency rate during the power generation during operation, the battery is charged and the power generation current is increased in accordance with a standby current increase rate that is lower than the low-temperature efficiency rate during the standby power generation.

A fuel cell vehicle includes a fuel cell stack including a cathode flow field and an anode flow field, an atmospheric air pressure acquisition unit for obtaining pressure of atmospheric air, and a pump for sucking the atmospheric air and supplying an oxygen-containing gas to the cathode flow field through a supply channel. In the case where the temperature is predicted to be below freezing temperature after the time of stopping operation of the fuel cell stack, a scavenging period for the time of stopping operation is set based on the atmospheric air pressure, in order to perform scavenging of the cathode flow field by the oxygen-containing gas in a manner that the cathode flow field is placed in a predetermined humid state.

Fuel cell vehicle and method of setting stop time scavenging period of the vehicle

When operation is to be started in a state where the SOC of a high-voltage battery has dropped, an exhaust gas recirculation pump is driven by a low-voltage battery to suck in atmosphere through an air intake valve. The atmosphere is supplied to a fuel cell stack as oxygen-containing gas, while fuel gas is supplied from a fuel tank thereto, whereby power generation is performed to thereby charge the high-voltage battery. Normal power generation of the fuel cell system is performed using the high-voltage power of the charged high-voltage battery.

Method of starting operation of fuel cell system

A temperature sensor of a fuel cell system detects, as a start-up time temperature, the temperature of a fuel cell stack or the outside temperature at the time of starting operation. A memory stores a plurality of current limitation patterns. A current limiting unit selects a current limitation pattern based on the detected start-up time temperature, and limits electrical current collected from the fuel cell stack based on the selected current limitation pattern and the temperature during operation of the fuel cell stack detected by the temperature sensor. A threshold value for a period until the temperature of the fuel cell stack reaches a reference temperature is set to be smaller as the start-up time temperature at which the current limitation pattern is selected from the plurality of current limitation patterns becomes lower.

Fuel cell system and method of controlling fuel cell system

A method of shutting down a fuel cell system includes a first step of supplying hydrogen gas and air to a fuel cell stack to thereby cause the fuel cell stack to generate electricity, and a second step of stopping supply of the hydrogen gas, and then supplying air to the fuel cell stack so as to cause the fuel cell stack to generate electricity upon detection of a command to shut down the fuel cell stack. In the second step, when the pressure of the hydrogen gas is lowered to a preset lower-limit value based on an anode pressure, which actually is measured, the fuel cell stack is caused to stop generating electricity.

Method of shutting down fuel cell system

An oxygen-containing gas supply passage and an oxygen-containing gas discharge passage extend through a set of diagonal positions of a first metal separator, and a fuel gas supply passage and a fuel gas discharge passage extend through the other set of diagonal positions of the first metal separator. A fuel gas flow field is connected to the fuel gas supply passage through an inlet buffer at an upper position, and connected to the fuel gas discharge passage through an outlet buffer at a lower position. The inlet buffer includes a first inlet buffer area adjacent to the fuel gas supply passage and a second inlet buffer area adjacent to the fuel gas flow field. Grooves of the first inlet buffer area are deeper than grooves of the second inlet buffer area in the stacking direction.

Fuel cell

This fuel cell stack includes: a coolant-supplying penetration hole and a coolant-discharging penetration hole each communicating with a coolant passage and each penetrates unit fuel cells in a stacking direction. A coolant-supplying penetration hole and a coolant-discharging penetration hole are arranged in a horizontal direction opposing with each other so as to sandwich a power generating region. The fuel cell stack further includes: an air draining penetration hole communicating with the coolant passage and arranged such that at least one part thereof is located at a higher position than an uppermost position of the coolant passage, and penetrates the unit fuel cells in the stacking direction; and a coolant draining penetration hole communicating with the coolant passage and arranged such that at least one part thereof is located at a lower position than a lowermost position of the coolant passage, and penetrates the unit fuel cells in the stacking direction.
