A printing apparatus includes a printing unit that prints an image based on image data, and an inspection pattern including a first patch, and a second patch different in color or having the same color and different in density than the first patch, each of the first and second patches being printed so as to extend in the first direction on the printing medium, and the first patch and the second patch being arranged in the second direction. A scanning unit includes a plurality of detection elements arranged in the second direction, and scans the inspection pattern, and a correcting unit corrects the image data based on a scanning result. The scanning unit scans the first patch using a first detection element and scans the second patch by using a second detection element which is farther away from a lens than the first detection element.

An image forming apparatus comprises a detection unit that detects that a recording material is conveyed to a predetermined position on a conveyance path; a forming unit that forms an examination pattern at a defined position of the recording material; a reading unit that reads an image on the conveyance path when the recording material is being conveyed; a memory that saves read image data during a predetermined period defined based on a detection timing of the detection unit; a specifying unit that specifies an edge of the recording material by detecting an area corresponding to the conveyance path in the image data saved in the memory, and specifies an examination pattern area corresponding to the examination pattern based on the specified edge and the defined position; and an examining unit that examines the examination pattern area.

An image reading apparatus has an image sensor in which a plurality of sensor arrays for reading a document image are connected into a line, and parallel-output image data. In the image reading apparatus, of image data output from each sensor array, image data of a pixel at one end and image data of the remaining pixels are compressed by different compression methods. The compressed data of one line are decompressed by a set method at the timing when the number of pixels reaches a preset number of pixels.

A pin belt type paper tractor comprises a drive shaft rotatively driven at the time of feeding a recording paper, a belt driving wheel fitted slidably in the axial direction on the drive shaft for the rotation therewith, and a chassis body for pinching the belt driving wheel from the opposite sides thereof. The chassis is movable in the widthwise direction of a recording paper and is in engagement slidably at its peripheral portion with a fixed support frame having a length not less than the paper width. A rotary member is rotatably supported by the chassis body and an endless belt is engaged between and around the belt driving wheel and rotary member. The endless belt is provided on its outer peripheral surface with a plurality of pins brought into engagement with the perforations of the recording paper. A paper holding cover is pivotably attached to the chassis body in open and close directions.
