A pen includes a first speaker that outputs a first signal and a second speaker that outputs a second signal. The first and second speakers are located away from a tip of the pen at respectively different locations. The second signal is delayed with respect to the first signal by a time shorter than a cycle of the first signal. An interpolation time is set between the times of generation of the first and second signals. Interpolated positions of the first and second speakers at the interpolation time are estimated, and position of the tip of the pen is calculated from the interpolated positions of the first and second speakers.

A document processing system is disclosed that is capable of processing both fixed-format and unfixed-format hand written paper documents. The document processing system includes an encoding unit that encodes a sheet ID for identifying a hand written first document on a sheet to generate a coded sheet ID; a decoding unit that decodes the coded sheet ID; a document-sheet ID association unit that associates the sheet ID with a document ID assigned to a computerized second document; a printing unit that acquires the sheet ID and prints the coded sheet ID on the first document; a sheet ID management unit that manages the sheet ID; an information acquisition unit that acquires the sheet ID decoded by the decoding unit, and hand-written data from the first document on which the coded sheet ID is printed; and a process-sheet ID association unit that associates the sheet ID with a process ID of a process for processing the hand-written data acquired by the information acquisition unit.

A data processing system having a client apparatus for requesting target data to be processed and a server apparatus for performing a process on the target data transmitted from the client apparatus is disclosed that includes a client process request transmitting part provided in the client apparatus and configured to transmit a process request and processible data indicating data that can be processed by the client apparatus to the server apparatus, and a processing part provided in the server apparatus and configured to perform a suitable process on the target data based on the processible data transmitted together with the process request from the client process request transmitting part.

A new document creation device is provided to create a new electronic document by combining at least two electronic documents extracted by the electronic document extraction device. Electronic document creating apparatus

An optical disk recording apparatus comprising a memory, a laser recording unit, a first motor, a second motor, an asymmetry information detect mechanism, and a controller is disclosed. The memory stores an initial recording laser power and a reference asymmetry of a playback signal. The laser recording unit emits laser light according to a recording laser power and records data using the laser light on an optical disk rotated by the first motor. The second motor moves the laser recording unit along the surface of the recordable optical disk. The asymmetry information detect mechanism detects asymmetry information of a playback signal from data recorded. During an optimum laser power calibration, the controller instructs the first motor to rotate the recordable optical disk at a linear velocity which is the same as a linear velocity at which the data recording is to be performed at the specific area and performs a test recording at a test location for a predetermined number of times using the initial recording laser power with a stepwise change each time so as to determine an optimum recording laser power according to the selected optimum asymmetry closest to the reference asymmetry.
