A system for augmented reality layout includes an augmented reality layout server and an augmented reality layout device, including a processor; a non-transitory memory; an input/output; a model viewer providing two-dimensional top, three-dimensional, and augmented reality views of a design model; a model editor; a model synchronizer, which aligns and realigns the design model with a video stream of an environment; a model cache; and an object cache. Also disclosed is method for augmented reality layout including creating model outline, identifying alignment vector, creating layout, verifying design model, editing design model, and realigning design model.

Augmented reality enabled layout system and method

A method of bending sheet metal uses a test work piece of the same thickness and material as a finished piece. The test piece is bent into an angled form having an interior angle of any size. The interior angle is measured as are the height of each exterior edge above its opposite leg and the height of the apex of the angled form. Using these measurements, the interior radius of the angled form can be calculated as can the inner and outer lengths of the legs. Using these values the depth of a neutral line, which will have the same length in a work piece whether bent or not, can be determined. Once the depth of the neutral line has been calculated, a bend deduction for the final work piece may be determined and thus the required starting length is determined for any desired interior angle or leg lengths.

Method of bending sheet metal

A method is provided for guaranteeing generation of 2D sketches based upon a 3D sheet metal part shape created by any type of sheet metal feature operation. The method includes performing a sheet metal feature operation to create the 3D sheet metal shape. The 3D sheet metal shape will have multiple flanges. Then an editable 2D sketch is created for each flange by obtaining geometric parameters of the 3D sheet metal shape, and linking the parameters with the appropriate generated sketch. The constraint parameters can include line segment lengths and angles between selected adjoining two line segments of the 3D sheet metal shape.

Data for a 3D sheet metal part model is stored in a file. The stored data includes features of the part and manufacturing information. When different manufacturing processes are used, different geometry can be created. The file can store multiple processes for manufacturing the part and the geometry associated with each process. Thus, when manufacturing the part, the user can view information for multiple stored processes because all of the information is stored together. In addition, both 2D and 3D data is stored for the part.

An apparatus prepares data for manufacturing a product or a part with a pre-determined shape by using a bending press provided with detachable tools. The apparatus includes a computer memory that stores bending order information for manufacturing the product or the part. The bending order information is obtained after successfully completing bending operations and is associated with the product or the part.

Search for similar sheet metal part models

Analysis is performed on sheet metal products to determine characteristics (or feature vectors) of the sheet metal products. Multiple feature vectors can be obtained for each sheet metal product. Exemplary analyses include a first order moment and a second order moment. The characteristics can be compared with characteristics of other sheet metal part shapes to determine how similar the shapes are.

Pattern recognition for sheet metal part models

An apparatus and method is provided for managing and distributing design and manufacturing information throughout a factory in order to facilitate the production of components, such as bent sheet metal components. In accordance with an aspect of the present invention, the management and distribution of critical design and manufacturing information is achieved by storing and distributing the design and manufacturing information associated with each job. By replacing the traditional paper job set-up or work sheet with, for example, an electronically stored job sheet that can be accessed instantaneously from any location in the factory, the present invention improves the overall efficiency of the factory. In addition, through the various aspects and features of the invention, the organization and accessibility of part information and stored expert knowledge is improved.

A computer program is provided for developing a bend model of a part to be produced at an intelligent production facility. In accordance with an aspect of the disclosed program, faces of the part are detected based on initial part information, and bendlines of the part are identified based on the detected faces of the part. Further, additional part information is generated by performing a predetermined operation (e.g., a folding operation or an unfolding operation) on the detected faces of the part. The disclosed program also includes other capabilities, such as the capability to perform clean-up operations on initial, 2-D part information and to selectively eliminate part thickness representations in order to facilitate the preparation of a 3-D representation of the part from the modified 2-D part information.
