A printing device has a print unit that prints on roll paper; a storage compartment that holds roll paper; a paper guide that limits the position of the roll paper in the storage compartment; a paper guide sensor that outputs different detection values according to the status of the paper guide; a memory unit that stores the paper width of the roll paper; and a control unit that causes the print unit to print based on the paper width stored by the memory unit, detects the status of the paper guide based on the detection value of the paper guide sensor when triggered by a specific event, changes the paper width setting to a value indicating 58 mm if the paper guide is installed, and to a value indicating 80 mm if the paper guide is not installed.

When printing a first line, a control device controls energizing heat elements corresponding to pixels where a dot is formed on a second line that is printed continuously. A control device of a thermal head having a plurality of heat elements arranged in a line includes: an acquisition unit that acquires information of pixels forming dots when printing the second line during line printing of a first line and a second line by continuous line printing by the plural heat elements; and an energization control unit that controls energizing the heat elements during the first energizing period based on image data related to printing the first line when printing the first line, and controls energizing the heat elements in the second energizing period when printing the first line based on the image data related to printing the first line and the pixel information acquired by the acquisition unit.

A printing device and a control method for a printing device enable eliminating paper feed error due to slipping between a paper feed roller and recording paper when printing. The control unit of a thermal printer has a slippage calculator that runs a process to calculate slippage between the recording paper and platen roller when conveying the recording paper during printing, and a conveyance distance correction unit that runs a process to correct the paper feed distance of the recording paper when printing to each printing area based on the slippage that was just calculated. The conveyance distance correction unit runs a process that inserts a non-printing area d of a length corresponding to the slippage to one or plural specific positions in the original print image.

Method for a printing device that prints while compensating for slippage and device for implementing that method

A label sheet conveyance device is provided to more accurately automatically detect seams between label sheets in a label printer. Using a first threshold value that is set according to the mode of sensor output values for detecting the sheet portion between labels, and a second threshold value that is greater than the first threshold value for detecting holes in the label sheet, a label printer determines a sheet position where the sensor output value is equal to each threshold value. If a sheet position equal to the second threshold value is detected, the center of that sheet position is identified as the seam position. If a sheet position equal to the second threshold value is not identified and a sheet position equal to the first threshold value is identified, the center of that sheet position is identified as the seam position.
