A filter cartridge comprising a strip, long fiber non-woven fabric which comprises a thermoplastic fiber and in which at least a part of fiber intersections is adhered, which is wound around a perforated cylinder in a twill form, has made it possible to obtain a cylindrical filter cartridge which is excellent in a liquid-passing property, a filter life and a stability in a filtering accuracy. The thermoplastic fiber constituting the above long fiber non-woven fabric is particularly preferably a thermally adhesive composite fiber comprising a low melting point resin and a high melting point resin and having a melting point difference of 10&#xb0; C. or more between those of both resins.

Filter cartridge

Filters having a high accuracy, small pressure loss, and long filtration life compared with conventional filters are provided. The filters are composed of non-woven fibrous agglomerates and are constructed in such a way that at least two layers of a non-woven fibrous agglomerate of a pre-filtration layer and a precision filtration layer are disposed therein; the pre-filtration layer is constructed in such a way that the diameter of the fibers in the pre-filtration layer becomes gradually smaller toward the direction of filtration; and at least 10% by weight of the fibers in the precision filtration layer are fibers having a diameter smaller than that of the fibers having a smallest diameter in the pre-filtration layer.

A cylindrical filter formed of stacked microfine, conjugate fibers consisting of a higher melting point component and a lower melting point component, the fiber diameter of the conjugate fibers being varied into a smaller one in the thickness direction of the filter and along with the passing direction of a fluid to be filtered, and the contact points of the conjugate fibers being melt-adhered by the lower melting point component is provided. This cylindrical filter is produced by a process of subjecting a higher melting point component and a lower melting point component each consisting of a fiber-forming thermoplastic polymer to conjugate melt-blow spinning so that the fiber diameter is varied during the spinning into a smaller one in the thickness direction of the filter and along with the passing direction of the fluid, winding up and stacking the fibers on a core to form a cylindrical shape on the core, heat-treating the resulting web at a temperature higher than the melting point of the lower melting point component and lower than the melting point of the higher melting point component, before and/or at the time of or after the winding-up, and drawing out the core.

Disclosed is a laminated non-woven fabric of a multi-layer structure comprising a layer of a composite, spun bond non-woven fabric composed of long fibers containing a low melting point resin component and a high melting point resin component, and a layer of a non-woven fabric of melt-blow ultrafine mixed fibers comprising low melting point ultrafine fibers and high melting point ultrafine fibers both of the fibers have an average fiber diameter of 10 .mu.m or less, both of the layers are laminated, and fibers in each of the non-woven fabrics and both of the layers are heat-melt adhered with each other. The laminated non-woven fabric has a good hand feeling and a high peeling strength of adjacent layers, but has no rough feeling.

The cartridge filter of the present invention is a filter comprising a wound and laminated composite non-woven fabric containing heat fusible fibers, wherein the delamination strength between layers of the laminated composite non-woven fabric of said filter increases continuously or discontinuously from the outer layer toward the inner layer, the delamination strength of the inner layer-exceeds 1000 gf/5 cm, and the delamination strength of the outer layer is 5 to 1000 gf/5 cm. This cartridge excels in filtering life, filtering accuracy, and pressure resistance.

A cylindrical filter is disclosed which comprises a wound up layer of a fibrous aggregate comprising melt-adhesive composite fibers bonded each other through the melt of a melt-adhesive component in the composite fibers and a layer of non-woven fabric of glass fibers, the layer of non-woven fabric is arranged on the outer surface of the wound up layer of the fibrous aggregate, and glass fibers have a smaller diameter than that of the melt-adhesive composite fibers. The cylindrical filter has an excellent filter rating and filter life.

A filtering medium which is unchanged in the maximum pore size even when heating sterilization, high temperature filtration, etc. are carried out, yet has a high tensile strength, can be processed into pleat-form and also is applied to high precision filtration, is provided, which filtering medium is a product having a non-woven fabric composed of 20 to 80% by weight of lower melting point microfine fibers and 80 to 20% by weight of higher melting point microfine fibers having a melting point higher by 10.degree. C. or higher than that of the lower melting point microfine fibers, the respective fibers being hot-melt-adhered to one another through the lower melting point microfine fibers, hot-melt-adhered to a hot-melt-adhesive net, and having a maximum pore size of 120 .mu.m.

A hotmelt-adhesive fiber sheet having a high adhesion onto paper, clothes ,timbers, metals, etc. is obtained by subjecting (1) a termpolymer of ethylene-acrylic acid ester-maleic anhydride, from which microfine fibers have not so far been obtained due to inferior spinnability since the terpolymer has a high frictional force against metals and is liable to generate static electricity, and (2) a thermoplastic resin having a melting point higher by 30.degree. C. or more than the melting point of the terpolymer, to conjugate spinning according to a melt blown process, followed by making up the conjugate fibers into a web without using any spinning oiling agent and heat-treating the web.

Hotmelt-adhesive fiber sheet and process for producing the same

A web or a fibers consisting of microfibers having a fineness of 0.01 denier or less is provided, which web or fibers is obtained by spinning conjugate fibers consisting of microfibers-generating fibers of island-in-sea type, according to melt blown process, the sea component being a thermoplastic resin (polyvinyl alcohol) capable of being removed with a solvent (water) and the island component being a thermoplastic resin (polypropylene) insoluble in the solvent used for the sea component, followed by collecting the spun conjugate fibers in the form of a web or a tow; the resulting composite fibers being thinner than those obtained according to conventional conjugate spinning and the microfibers obtained by removing the sea component also being thinner than fibers obtained from conventional conjugate fibers of island-in-sea type.
