A thrust bearing is equipped with a resin coating applied to the surface of a base material. Lattice-shaped discharge grooves are formed in the surface of the thrust bearing, and planer protrusions having a square shape or the like are formed at the adjacent positions thereof. Each corner part of each planer protrusion form a sliding surface that slides with respect to a counterpart member. Contaminants such as wear particles that have infiltrated between the counterpart member and the sliding surface fail into the discharge grooves and then are discharged outside of the sliding surface. The chamfering of each corner part to a rounded shape prevents the contaminants from accumulating in the discharge grooves, thus preventing the contaminants from biting into the planer protrusions.

Sliding member and manufacturing method therefor

A scroll compressor which can be mounted in an automobile has a slide bearing resulting from baking onto a back metal a sliding layer of 5-60 wt % graphite having an average diameter of 5-50 &#x3bc;m and a graphitization degree of at least 0.6, the remainder containing a polyimide resin and/or a polyamide-imide resin. The form of the graphite has: (a) an average shape factor (YAVE) as defined of 1-4 for the particles excluding the minute particles that are no greater than 0.5 times the average diameter, and there being at least 70% by number of particles having a shape factor (Y) in the range of 1-1.5; or (b) graphite particles having a particle ratio of at least 0.5 being at least 50% of the total by number.

A swash plate of a swash plate-type compressor is covered with a resin-based coating layer containing 5 to 60 mass % of spherical graphite particles having an average particle diameter of 5 to 50 &#x3bc;m, the balance being one or more species selected from polyimide resin and polyamide-imide resin. The spherical graphite particles excepting minute particles having a particle diameter 0.5 times or smaller the average particle diameter, have an average shape coefficient (Y) falling within a range of 1 to 4, and 70% or more in number of the spherical graphite particles have a shape coefficient (Y) within a range of 1 to 1.5,=total[{/4&#x3c0;/4&#x3c0;wherein 'total' indicates that a value in [ ] is totalized for number 'i', &#x201c;PM&#x201d; indicates the circumferential length of one particle, &#x201c;A&#x201d; indicates a cross sectional area of one particle, and &#x201c;i&#x201d; indicates the measurement number.

Shoe

A swash plate compressorincludes a swash platewhich rotates around a rotary shaft, a pistonwhich moves forward and backward in response to the rotation of the swash plateand in which a hemispherical concave sliding surfaceis formed, and a shoein which there are formed a flat end surface portionwhich comes into sliding contact with the swash plateand a spherical surface portionwhich comes into sliding contact with the sliding surfaceof the piston. A columnar portionis formed between the spherical surface portionand the end surface portionin the shoe, and in a boundary area between the columnar portionand the spherical surface portion, there is formed a spherical-surface-portion side flangewhich protrudes radially outward and constitutes the spherical surface portion.

Swash plate compressor

A hemispherical shoe (sliding member)has a flat sliding surface, which is quenched to form a quenched portion. A part of the quenched sliding surface is partially annealed to form an annealed portion. When an oil film pressure acts on the sliding surface, the annealed portionis deformed by pressure so that the surface thereof has a concave portionA. In the annealed portion, a remaining quenched portionmay remain at the center part thereof. The concave portionA can be used as an oil reservoir or an oil flow path, so that an excellent seizure resistance can be ensured.

Sliding member and manufacturing method thereof

A swash plate type compressor includes a swash plate rotating around a rotating shaft, pistons that advance and retreat with the rotation of the swash plate and formed with a hemispherical concave sliding surface, and shoes formed with a flat end surface part in sliding contact with the swash plate and a spherical surface part in sliding contact with the sliding surface of the piston. A cylindrical part is formed between the spherical surface part and the end surface part of the shoe, and the shoe is formed with a flange part that surrounds the boundary portion between the cylindrical part and the end surface part and is in sliding contact with the swash plate. Further, the flange part is located on the inside of an imaginary spherical surface including the sliding surface of the piston.
