Provided is a gas sensor having excellent detection sensitivity and responsiveness. In a sensor element, 3.5&#x2264;D2/D1&#x2264;6 is satisfied, where D1 is a value of a diffusion resistance of a measurement gas via a main gas distribution part extending from an outside edge position of a first gas inlet to the second internal space, and D2 is a value of a diffusion resistance of a measurement gas flowing via a second gas inlet that causes the outside and the second internal space to communicate with each other. The concentration of a predetermined gas component contained in the measurement gas through the second gas inlet is determined on the basis of a potential difference between the sensing electrode and a reference electrode, while pumping oxygen in or out for the measurement gas via the main gas distribution part such that the oxygen concentration of the second internal space is maintained at 1 vol % or more.

Gas sensor

A sensing electrode for sensing a predetermined gas component of a measurement gas, which is provided in a mixed-potential gas sensor that measures the concentration of the predetermined gas component, is formed of a cermet containing a noble metal and an oxygen-ion conductive solid electrolyte. The noble metal comprises Pt and Au. An Au abundance ratio, which is an area ratio of a portion covered with Au to a portion at which Pt is exposed in a surface of noble metal particles forming the sensing electrode, is 0.3 or more.

Gas sensor, method of producing conductive paste, and method of manufacturing gas sensor

Provided is a gas sensor capable of accurately obtaining a hydrocarbon gas concentration even if a measurement gas contains water vapor. A main pumping cell adjusts an oxygen partial pressure of a first internal space such that a hydrocarbon gas in a measurement gas is not substantially burned in the first internal space. An auxiliary pumping cell adjusts an oxygen partial pressure of a second internal space such that inflammable gas components except for hydrocarbon are selectively burned. Then, a measuring pumping cell supplies oxygen to a surface of a measuring electrode. As a result, hydrocarbon existing in the measurement gas being in contact with the measuring electrode is all burned on the surface of the measuring electrode and, based on the magnitude of a current flowing between the measuring electrode and a main pumping electrode at that time, identifies a concentration of a hydrocarbon gas component existing in the measurement gas.

Hydrocarbon gas sensor

A NOx sensor for measuring NOx concentration including a main pumping cell and a detecting electrode, the main pumping cell-including an electrode having no decomposing/reducing ability for NOx or a low decomposing/reducing ability for NOx, to be used to control oxygen concentration in a measurement gas to have a predetermined value at which NO is not substantially decomposable, and the detecting electrode having a certain decomposing/reducing ability for NOx or a high decomposing/reducing ability for NOx, to be used so that NOx is decomposed to measure the NOx concentration by measuring an amount of oxygen produced during this process, wherein a cermet electrode composed of a Pt&mdash;Rh alloy and a ceramic component is used as the detecting electrode. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress the oxidation of Rh and the reconversion into the metal contained in the detecting electrode, stabilize the impedance, and stabilize the sensitivity to NOx.

NOx concentration-measuring apparatus

One of a pair of temperature sensor sections in a combustible gas sensor is covered with porous oxidizing catalytic layers ( ) for oxidizing a combustible gas, and the other is not covered with the oxidizing catalyst layers. The temperature sensor sections each have temperature sensitive portions ( ) made of a dense ceramic material, resistors ( ) buried therein and having a positive resistance temperature coefficient, current leads ( ) and voltage leads ( ). A method for detecting the deterioration of a catalyst which intends to eliminate the combustible gas, by the use of this combustible gas sensor is further disclosed. When a difference between temperatures of the pair of resistors or a difference between powers fed to the pair of resistors is in excess of a predetermined value, it is judged that the catalyst has been deteriorated.

Method for detecting deterioration of catalyst

Disclosed is a NOx sensor for measuring a NOx concentration comprising a main pumping cell and a detecting electrode, the main pumping cell including an electrode (an inner pumping electrode and an outer pumping electrode) having no decomposing/reducing ability for NOx or a low decomposing/reducing ability for NOx, to be used so that an oxygen concentration in a measurement gas is controlled to have a predetermined value at which NO is not substantially decomposable, and the detecting electrode having a certain decomposing/reducing ability for NOx or a high decomposing/reducing ability for NOx, to be used so that NOx is decomposed to measure the NOx concentration by measuring an amount of oxygen produced during this process, wherein a cermet electrode composed of a Pt&mdash;Rh alloy and a ceramic component is used as the detecting electrode. Accordingly, it is possible to suppress the oxidation of Rh and the reconversion into the metal contained in the detecting electrode, stabilize the impedance, and stabilize the sensitivity to NOx.

NOx concentration-measuring method

Disclosed is a NOx concentration-measuring apparatus for measuring a NOx concentration by using a main pumping cell including an electrode (inner pumping electrode and outer pumping electrode) having no or low decomposing/reducing ability with respect to NOx to control an oxygen concentration in a measurement gas to have a predetermined value which substantially does not affect measurement of NOx component, and using a detecting electrode having certain or high decomposing/reducing ability with respect to NOx to decompose NOx so that an amount of oxygen produced during this process is measured, wherein the detecting electrode is a cermet electrode composed of an alloy of Pt&mdash;Rh and a ceramic component, and Pt and Rh are contained in a weight ratio of Pt:Rh&equals;20:80 to 1:99.

NOx-decomposing electrode and NOx concentration-measuring apparatus

A combustible gas sensor having a pair of temperature sensor sections is here disclosed. One of the pair of temperature sensor sections is covered with porous oxidizing catalytic layers (23, 24) for oxidizing a combustible gas, and the other is not covered with the oxidizing catalyst layers. In the one temperature sensor section, the combustible gas is burned, and in the other temperature sensor section, the temperature of a gas to be measured is compensated. The temperature sensor sections each comprises temperature sensitive portions (13, 14) made of a dense ceramic material, resistors (21, 22) buried therein and having a positive resistance temperature coefficient, current leads (31, 32, 41, 42) and voltage leads (33, 34, 43, 44). A method for measuring the concentration of the combustible gas by the use of this combustible gas sensor is also disclosed. A method for detecting the deterioration of a catalyst which intends to eliminate the combustible gas, by the use of this combustible gas sensor is further disclosed. When a difference between temperatures of the pair of resistors or a difference between powers fed to the pair of resistors is in excess of a predetermined value, it is judged that the catalyst has been deteriorated.
