An ink jet printer includes a restraint device which applies a restraining force, applied to a support surface used for supporting a recording sheet, to the recording sheet transported from an upstream side to a downstream side in a transport direction. The restraint device includes a second support member which includes the support surface and a suction hole opened to the support surface and generating a negative pressure therein and which is capable of sucking the recording sheet supported to the support surface toward the support surface on the basis of the negative pressure generated inside the suction hole and a shield belt which is disposed to face the support surface.

A sheet adsorption device includes a sheet adsorbing surface, a suction hole disposed on the sheet adsorbing surface, and a flow path shifting unit that shifts between a first state and a second state of a communication flow path that is communicated with the suction hole in accordance with existence of a sheet that covers the suction hole. The cross-section area of a flow path in the second state is smaller than that in the first state and the communication flow path is not closed in the second state.

A liquid ejecting head is operable to move in a first direction. A platen is opposed to the liquid ejecting head to support an object to which a liquid droplet is ejected from the liquid ejecting head and to define a gap between the liquid ejecting head and the object. The platen is formed with a groove hole to which a liquid droplet deviated from an edge of the object is disposed, and through holes formed in a bottom portion of the groove hole and arranged in the first direction. A tray member is arranged below the platen to receive liquid dropped through the through holes. A first liquid absorber is provided in the groove hole. A second liquid absorber is provided in the tray member. At least one liquid leading member extends through at least one of the through holes to lead liquid absorbed by the first liquid absorber to the second liquid absorber.

A discharge device for discharging a medium, includes: a discharge-driving roller, provided in a downstream of a liquid emitting head for emitting liquid onto the medium, for being driven to rotate; a discharge-driven roller, biased by a biasing mechanism toward the discharge-driving roller, for being brought into contact with the discharge-driving roller to be rotated by the discharge-driving roller; a discharge frame, to which the discharge-driven roller is attached, having a posture changeable between a contact posture that brings the discharge-driven roller into contact with the discharge-driving roller and a release posture that moves the discharge-driven roller away from the discharge-driving roller; and an engagement portion, provided on the discharge frame, for engaging with an outside region of the medium inserted between the discharge-driving roller and the discharge-driven roller toward an upstream against a force applied by the biasing mechanism, the outside region being a region other than a liquid-emitted region of the medium onto which the liquid is to be emitted, wherein the medium is discharged by rotation of the discharge-driving roller, and the outside region of the medium moves the engagement portion away to change the posture of the discharge frame from the contact posture to the release posture, when the medium is inserted between the discharge-driving roller and the discharge-driven roller toward the upstream.

Discharge device of medium and liquid emitting apparatus having the discharge device

Paper feeding roller, image forming means, fixing means, paper discharging means, and a sheet guide are all slanted from the vertical direction. Support means, which supports the printed sheet discharged from the paper discharging means in a state that it is slanted from the vertical direction to the inside of the image forming apparatus, is formed by the side portion of the case. The lower-edge support for supporting the lower edge of the discharged sheet is positioned at a level that is higher than the lower edge of the sheet to be fed. The slanting angle of the support means is selected to have such a value as to prevent the sheet from slipping down from the support means when the image forming apparatus is laid down.

Image forming apparatus

A recording paper sorting and discharging device designed to improve the construction of copiers, printers, or the like, in sorting, separating and discharging paper in which the ends of one side of a pair of paper discharging roller shafts are shifted in a direction essentially parallel to a recording paper discharging direction while the other ends of the shafts remain stationary. The device includes a paper discharge section for discharging a recording paper in a direction essentially orthogonal to the discharge section or at an angle with respect to the discharge section, and a paper discharging tray for receiving the recording paper discharged from the discharged section. The paper discharging tray includes a first edge portion over which a section of the recording paper discharged in the orthogonal direction is projected and a second edge portion over which a section of a recording paper discharged at an angle with respect to the orthogonal discharge direction is projected. The device may also include support surfaces for supporting the rear edge of the recording paper discharged orthogonal to or at an angle with respect to the discharged section.

Recording paper sorting and discharging device

A recording paper sorting and discharging device designed to improve the construction of copiers, printers, or the like, in sorting, separating and discharging paper in which the ends of one side of a pair of paper discharging roller shafts are shifted in a direction essentially parallel to a recording paper discharging direction while the other ends of the shafts remain stationary. The paper discharging roller shafts each have at least one roller, the rollers being separated from each other for a given period of time and, in response to detect signals, the rollers disposed on the shafts then contact each other. The recording paper can thereby be discharged obliquely onto a paper discharging tray. Alternatively, a pair of paper discharging roller shafts, each shaft having both a drive roller fixed on one side thereof in an axial direction and a driven paper discharging roller rotatably mounted on the other side thereof such that the respective drive and driven rollers on each shaft press against each other. By cutting off one of the paper discharging roller shafts from the drive system of the device, the recording paper is discharged smoothly and at an angle without generating wrinkles in the paper so the paper is thereafter presorted.

An electrophotographic recording apparatus comprising these units which are arranged vertically: a sheet feeder for feeding a sheet of recording paper to a sheet feed inlet; an image forming unit for forming a printing image onto a photosensitive drum based on printing data and transferring the printing image onto the sheet; and a fixing unit for fixing the transferred image on the sheet. The apparatus further comprises a sheet switching guide mechanism by which the head end of the sheet is switched to both upper and lower directions. When the sheet switching guide mechanism is set to the upper direction, the printed sheet is forwarded by a sheet guide member to thereby pass through the printing path the sheet has already been through with the rear side of the sheet being the front, and the printing data is written from the last line during this process.
