An image forming system includes an image forming apparatus which can wirelessly transmit information that there is a waiting job and has a plurality of modes concerning power consumption, a portable terminal which can receive the information transmitted from the image forming apparatus, a position detector which detects a position of the portable terminal, and a mode switcher which switches from one mode concerning power consumption of the image forming apparatus to another in accordance with the position of the portable terminal which received the information. The position detector detects the distance between a user carrying the portable terminal and the image forming apparatus. Based on the distance data at the time when the portable terminal received the information that there is a document waiting for being outputted by the image forming apparatus, the mode concerning power consumption of the image forming apparatus is switched by the mode switcher.

An image forming apparatus is provided with an automatic document feeder,having an original tray,, image reading sections,and,and a printer section P. The apparatus is provided with an insertion sheet detector for discriminating, when a composite original sheet group obtained by inserting between arbitrary pages of a first original sheet group comprised of original sheets of an identical size an insertion sheet of a size identical to that of the original sheets is set on the original tray,, whether the sheet fed to the image reading position is the original sheet of the first original sheet group or the insertion sheet. Through the process of forming the print group corresponding to the above composite original sheet group, the image of a second original prepared separately from the composite original sheet group is formed instead of the image of the insertion sheet. This image forming apparatus can automatically reliably form in a short time a print group corresponding to a state in which a certain original sheet group receives another original sheet to be inserted between arbitrary pages of the original sheet group.
