In the electric power converting apparatus, an electric current sensor that measures an electric current that flows through a busbar includes: a magnetic flux concentrating core that has a first end portion and a second end portion that face each other so as to have a measuring space interposed; and a magnetoelectric transducer that has a magnetically sensitive portion that is disposed in the measuring space. The magnetoelectric transducer generates a signal in response to a magnitude of a magnetic field that is sensed by the magnetically sensitive portion. Where a core opening direction of the magnetic flux concentrating core is a direction that is directed from the busbar, through the measuring space, and outward from the magnetic flux concentrating core, a direction of the magnetic leakage field at the electric reactor is a direction that is different than the core opening direction.

A perpendicular magnetic recording medium is used for information recording of a perpendicular magnetic recording type. In the WDM optical transmission, optical signals propagated through an optical transmission line are supplied to a circulator of a wavelength dispersion compensator. The optical signals supplied to an input terminal of the circulator are transmitted to an input and output terminal of the circulator, and inputted to fiber gratings of the reflection type. The optical signals having a specified wavelength is reflected by one of the fiber gratings, again inputted to the input and output terminal of the circulator, and transmitted to the output terminal of the same. Since the incident optical signals are reflected by the fiber gratings situated at different positions, there arises the difference in the time spent in traveling to and from the fiber grating between the optical signals. Accordingly, the wavelength dispersions of the optical signals can be compensated by suitably selecting the positions of the fiber gratings.

Disclosed is an optical gain equalizer for equalizing optical powers for a plurality of signal lights having wavelength different from one another. Disclosed are also an optical transmission line and an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system, for which the optical gain equalizer is used. A characteristic of a monotonous reduction of loss from a short wavelength to a long wavelength and/or a characteristic of a monotonous increase of loss from a short wavelength to a long wavelength is utilized. Specifically, the optical gain equalizer is composed of a well-known optical element such as an optical etalon filter, an optical band-pass filter, an optical fiber grating or the like. Even if a loss varies on the optical transmission line, the optical gain equalizer can provide an uniform optical power for respective channels.

An optical transmission system having an optical regeneration circuit for regenerating a signal with a deteriorated signal to noise ratio. The present invention relates to a gain equalization unit installed on an optical fiber transmission line with a plurality of lines. The gain equalization unit has gain equalizers and loss generators. The gain equalization unit is installed on at least one line, and the loss generators are installed on at least one line. The gain equalization unit equalizes the powers of channels in a predetermined range of the optical fiber transmission line. The loss generators are installed to make the loss amounts of the lines equal.

An output control circuit sets the output level of the optical amplifier section to an arbitrary value. With this composition, the present invention is capable of increasing the optical output level per wavelength, independently of the wavelength multiplex number n, when a light signal having n wavelengths is to be amplified.
