A heating device includes a heat generating element, a switching element, a capacitor, a connecting portion, and a controller. When the connecting means is changed in state from an on state to an off state, the controller causes the capacitor to discharge an electric charge of the capacitor by bringing the switching element into a conduction state for a predetermined time after the connecting means is changed in state to the off state.

Heating device and image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes a conveying unit, an image forming unit, a fixing unit, a first driving unit, a second driving unit, a transmission unit to transmit an ultrasonic wave, and a reception unit. Where a determination is made that a timing at which excitation of the first driving unit is switched or a timing at which excitation of the second driving unit is switched overlaps with a timing to obtain a value of the ultrasonic wave received by the reception unit, the transmission unit does not transmit an ultrasonic wave. Where a determination is made that the timing at which the excitation of the first driving unit is switched or the timing at which the excitation of the second driving unit is switched does not overlap with the timing to obtain the value of the received ultrasonic wave, the transmission unit transmits an ultrasonic wave.

Image forming apparatus

An image forming apparatus includes an image bearing member, a transfer member, a moving portion, a driving portion, a voltage applying portion, a first detecting portion, and a second detecting portion. On the basis of a detection result of the first detecting portion when a first test voltage is applied to the transfer member by the voltage applying portion, the second detecting portion sets a second test voltage. The second detecting portion detects a position of the transfer member on the basis of a detection result of a current value by the first detecting portion acquired when the second test voltage is applied to the transfer member by the voltage applying portion.

When a photosensitive member and a developing portion are in a separation state and in a start-up period, a first light emission is performed in an image region and a non-image region. When light is detected at least twice during a period when the first light emission is being performed, a second light emission is performed in the non-image region. When a prescribed period of time has elapsed from the start of the second light emission, a third light emission is performed in the image region in a third light emission amount that is smaller than a second light emission amount during a period in which the photosensitive member makes at least one revolution. After the third light emission is performed, the photosensitive member and the developing portion are switched to a contact state.

Image forming apparatus with variable light emission amounts

A color image forming apparatus includes one image bearing member, an image forming unit configured to successively form images with toners in plural different colors on the image bearing member per color, a revolving intermediate transfer member, and a transfer unit configured to successively transfer the images on the image bearing member onto the intermediate transfer member in a superimposed relation in a transfer section. Images are transferred in a superimposed relation by executing control such that, when formation of the next image is not started at a due timing of starting the formation of the next image, a timing at which transfer is started after the formation of the next image and a timing at which a leading end of the previously transferred image reaches the transfer section are matched with each other by temporarily changing the revolving speed of the intermediate transfer member or stopping it.
