A drive circuit for driving a plasma display panel (PDP) includes a pulse voltage generator that contains main switching elements disposed on a high voltage side and on a low voltage side, is operable to generate a pulse voltage by operating the main switching elements in accordance with an output voltage from a first power supply and apply the pulse voltage to a PDP scan electrode and sustain electrode, and a reset voltage generator operable to generate a reset voltage in accordance with an output voltage from a second power supply and apply it to the PDP. The pulse voltage generator contains a first diode that prevents the voltage output by the reset voltage generator from being applied backward to the first power supply and a first switching element connected to the first diode in parallel.

Plasma display panel drive circuit and plasma display apparatus

A lighting rate is calculated from a video signal input in a plasma display device, and an output current of DC-DC converter, which is the same as a discharge current in a sustain period corresponding to the lighting rate, is synchronized with a generation timing of discharge current. With such a configuration, even if discharge current in the sustain period of each subfield is rapidly changed, a sustain pulse voltage can be kept constant.

A plasma display panel driving circuit for driving a plasma display panel which has a plurality of scan electrodes and sustain electrodes and operates as a capacitive load, by applying a different waveform in each of a reset period, address period and sustain period, includes a voltage multiplying circuit having a first input terminal to which 0 or a first voltage is inputted and a second input terminal to which a second voltage that is smaller than the first voltage is inputted. The voltage multiplying circuit is operable to generate a voltage prepared by adding the second voltage to a voltage equivalent to integral multiple of the first voltage.

A reset pulse generating section applies the total of voltages of a positive voltage source and two constant-voltage sources from a high side ramp wave generating section to a high side scan switching device as the upper limit of a reset voltage pulse, and applies the ground potential from a low side ramp wave generating section to a low side scan switching device as the lower limit of the reset voltage pulse. A sustaining pulse generating section applies the upper and lower limits of a sustaining voltage pulse through a common sustaining pulse transmission path to the low side scan switching device.

A switching power supply comprises one or more switching sections which repeat ON/OFF operation, a transformer having a primary winding and a secondary winding, a synchronous rectifier section for rectifying a voltage induced in the secondary winding when an input voltage is applied to the primary winding of the transformer by the switching section, a smoothing section for smoothing the voltage rectified by the synchronous rectifier section to obtain an output voltage, a PWM control circuit which generates a PWM signal for adjusting the output voltage to determine an ON/OFF ratio of the switching section, and a drive transformer for ON-OFF driving the synchronous rectifier section according to the PWM signal, and is configured so as to use the energy stored in the drive transformer or the transformer for the ON/OFF operation of the synchronous rectifier section.

A switching power supply device of the present invention comprises a transformer having at least a first primary coil, a first secondary coil, a second secondary coil, a second primary coil, and laminated in the sequence of the first primary coil, the first secondary coil, the second secondary coil, the second primary coil, and having a configuration wherein a center tap is drawn out from a connecting part between one end of said first secondary coil and one end of said second secondary coil; a switching part for alternately applying a voltage in a forward direction and an inverse direction to said transformer; a rectifying part for rectifying the voltage induced across the center tap of the transformer and the other end of the first secondary coil or the other end of the second secondary coil; a smoothing part for smoothing the voltage of the rectifying part; and a control part for controlling the on-off of the switching part so that the output voltage becomes stable.

Switching power supply device

A switching power supply device of the invention includes: a switching circuit for interrupting direct current to generate a pulse voltage; a transformer including a primary winding, a secondary winding, and a core for magnetically coupling the primary winding and the secondary winding; a multi-layer wiring board having wiring lines constituting the primary winding and the secondary winding; a rectifier circuit for rectifying an alternating current; a smoothing circuit for suppressing ripple; and a control circuit for controlling an output voltage from the smoothing circuit. The multi-layer wiring board is provided with at least the switching circuit and the rectifier circuit and is arranged on a main wiring board, and the control circuit is arranged on the main wiring board.

Bumps are formed on electrodes of semiconductor elements, and moreover, the semiconductor elements with the bumps are electrically connected to metallic members having installation members, whereby wiring lines are eliminated. Stray inductance and conduction resistance resulting from wiring lines can be reduced. A conventional dented connector and a projecting connector are eliminated by connecting the installation members to a second circuit board, thereby enabling an electronic circuit device of a power control system to be made compact.

An AC-DC converter which allows an input current of an input AC power source to have harmonic currents of reduced levels and which supplies a stabilized output DC voltage to a load is realized by a simple circuit configuration. The converter has: a converter circuit consisting of a choke coil which receives a rectified voltage from a rectifying circuit, a switch element, and a diode; a smoothing capacitor which smooths the output voltage of the converter circuit and supplies the smoothed voltage to a load; and a control circuit consisting of a current detection circuit, a voltage detection circuit, and a pulse-width control circuit. In order to stabilize the output voltage, the switch element is turned on and off so that the peak value of the input current of the converter circuit is limited in a DC-like manner, thereby allowing the input current to have a trapezoidal waveform.
