A toothbrush capable of permitting tips of fillings thereof to enter or reach areas such as recesses between teeth, boundaries between teeth and gingivae, and the like to effectively remove dental plaque and the like and exhibit a soft feeling sufficient to prevent damage to gingivae. The toothbrush includes fillings made of a synthetic filament material. The fillings are each formed at both tips thereof into a pointed tapered shape and tied up into a plurality of bundles. The pointed tapered tips of the fillings are each formed with a length of 4 to 8 mm and a non-tapered section of each of the fillings is formed with a maximum diameter of 0.16 to 0.20 mm. Filling setting holes of a filling setting base provided at distal end of a handle of the toothbrush so as to set the bundles of the fillings thereon are formed with a diameter of 1.5 to 2.0 mm and spaced from other holes at an interval of 1.0 to 1.2 mm in the longitudinal direction of the handle.

Liquid dentrifice compositions having an abrasive uniformly dispersed in aqueous medium have a low viscosity to maintain flow and stability with the lapse of time. The compositions contain 5-40% of silica or similar abrasive and an optional xanthan gum/polyacrylate binder such that they have a visocity of 20-180 poise at 25.degree.C. and a yield value of 1-60 Pa at 25.degree. C.

Liquid dentifrice compositions

A dental filling material capable of forming a cured product with improved physical properties comprises a polymerizable monomer to be polymerized upon application, characterized in that the polymerizable monomer comprises a reaction product of two moles of a compound selected from the group consisting of hydroxyalkyl diacrylates and hydroxyalkyl dimethacrylates with on mole of an organic diisocyanate alone or in admixture with another polymerizable monomer. The reaction product may be bis(1,3-dimethacryloyloxy-2-propanetriyl)-N,N'-hexamethylene dicarbamate or bis(1,3-diacryloyloxy-2-propanetriyl)-N,N'-hexamethylene dicarbamate. The reaction product may be used in admixture with trimethylolpropane triacrylate and/or trimethacrylate and (mono-, di- or tri-)ethylene glycol diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate. The reaction product may also be used in admixture with bis-oxyethylenic bisphenol-A diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate and (mono-, di- or tri-)ethylene glycol diacrylate and/or dimethacrylate.

Dental filling material

An oral composition for caries prophylaxis which comprises a highly soluble stannous compound such as stannous fluoride preferably in an amount of 0.03 to 5% by weight of the composition as stannous tin, a difficultly soluble stannous compound such as stannous pyrophosphate preferably in an amount of 0.05 to 10% by weight of the composition as stannous tin, a phytic acid compound such as sodium phytate preferably in an amount of 0.1 to 20% by weight of the composition, and the pH of the composition being preferably acidic. A portion of the difficultly soluble stannous compound may be in a precipitate form. The oral composition which may be used as dentifrices, prophylactic pastes, dental flosses and the like permits n.sup.2+ ions to exert its effect because the storage stability is high enough to maintain the increased concentration of active dissolved stannous ions in the composition for a prolonged period of time and can render the tooth enamel more resistant to acid attack when applied to teeth.

Oral composition for caries prophylaxis

An oral composition for caries prophylaxis which comprises 0.04 to 10% by weight of stannous fluoride and not less than 0.1% by weight of a phytic acid compound, the molar ratio of the phytic acid compound to stannous fluoride being in the range of from 0.01:1 to 4:1 and the composition being acidic, is effective in inhibiting dental caries and shows a prolonged effect after application. The oral composition may be used as mouthwashes, oral bands, topical solutions, cavity sealers, prophylactic pastes, dentifrices, dental flosses and the like.
