A method of thermally processing a material with a thermal processing system includes providing a material for treating in an in-line thermal process to a heating system, providing a force to the material at a portion of the material configured to be heated by the heating system, adjusting the heating system to a specified temperature value, and heating the portion of the material to the specified temperature value while the portion of the material is under the force to change a magnetic property in the portion of the material. The heating system is moveable from a first position that is away from a path of the material through the in-line thermal process to a second position in which the heating system is configured to heat the portion of the material to the specified temperature value. The heating system can include induction-based heating.

Thermal processing techniques for metallic materials

Provided is an axial flux motor including a rotor having a wound ribbon core, the wound ribbon core including a metal amorphous nanocomposite material. The axial flux motor further includes a stator assembly spaced apart from the rotor along a rotation axis of the rotor. The stator assembly includes a body including a metal amorphous nanocomposite material and a plurality of permanent magnets substantially free of rare-earth materials. The plurality of permanent magnets is arranged on the body of the stator assembly.

A method of making iron nitride powder is provided. The method comprises the steps of: a) providing an iron-based starting material; b) reducing the starting material by heating the starting material in a fluidized bed reactor in the presence of a reducing agent; c) nitriding the material obtained from step (b) by contacting the material with a nitrogen source. Also provided is the iron nitride powder made by the above method.

A method and apparatus in which a first absorption measurement is made over a first frequency interval or set of frequency intervals including one or more absorptions from a spectral band of interest. The first absorption measurement is ideally selected to be near the frequency of a peak in the absorption spectrum, providing high sensitivity at low gas concentrations. A second absorption measurement is made over a second frequency interval. The second absorption measurement is made to include a contribution from the broadening of the absorption spectrum at higher concentrations. The second absorption measurement provides sensitivity at higher concentrations. The two absorption measurements are then combined to deduce the target sample concentration as the absorption line spectrum changes shape with concentration.

Based upon these comparisons, the processor ( ) generates a pulse width modulation control signal, which triggers a switching mechanism ( ) and related interrupt service routing to make adjustments to the operational parameters of the motor by periodic interruption of the motor current.

Motor controller system for battery-powered motors

An infrared gas analyzer for measuring low concentrations of a target gas, on the order of parts per million, in a sample gas is comprised of a gas sampling chamber, an infrared light source, and a power source for energizing the light source. A plurality of filters is provided to transmit infrared radiation at certain wavelengths. The wavelengths are chosen such that the effects of unwanted gases (such as water and carbon dioxide) can be removed from the final output signal. A plurality of infrared detectors are responsive to the filters for producing a plurality of electrical signals. A circuit is provided for combining the plurality of electrical signals to produce an output signal representative of the concentration of the target gas independently of other gases in the sample gas. A method of measuring low concentrations of a target gas is also disclosed.
