To make a tape length that can be supplied at one time long, and to make it possible to directly supply a tape from a record wound tape. A tape supplying method of this invention includes: connecting a tape end to an outer side of one record wound tape of a first record wound tape and a second record wound tape and a tape end to an inner side of another record wound tape, by matching a surface and a rear surface of the tapes; and after the connecting, supplying a tape of the first record wound tape and the second record wound tape from a tape end of the first record wound tape to an opposite side of a side that has been connected to the second record wound tape.

[Problem] The thickness on a ripcord in a circular optical cable is reduced, to improve workability. [Solution] An optical cable of the present invention includes: an optical fiber unit including optical fibers; a sheath, having a circular external form, configured to house the optical fiber unit in a housing portion; and two strength members embedded in the sheath; and two rip cords, wherein when a direction of connecting the two strength members sandwiching the housing portion is a first direction and a direction intersecting the first direction is a second direction, in a cross section of the optical cable, a cross-sectional shape of the housing portion has a dimension in the second direction greater than that in the first direction, and the two rip cords is disposed to sandwich the optical fiber unit such that a direction of connecting the two rip cords is in the second direction, in the cross section of the optical cable.

This optical fiber cable is provided with a covering resin including an outermost layer. The outermost layer is formed by a resin composition including: (a) a base resin prepared by adding at least one copolymer selected from an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer and an ethylene-ethyl acrylate copolymer to a high density polyethylene; (b) 25 to 90 parts by weight of a phosphate salt with respect to 100 parts by weight of the base resin; and (c) 0.75 to 15 parts by weight of either a silicone dispersed polyethylene or a silicone grafted polyethylene with respect to 100 parts by weight of the base resin.

An optical fiber cable includes an elongated optical element portion having an optical fiber, a pair of tensile strength members and an outer jacket. The optical fiber is composed of one or more plastic coated optical fibers, tight-buffered optical fibers or optical ribbon fibers. The pair of tensile strength members is arranged in parallel at both sides of the optical fiber in a width direction of the optical fiber. The outer jacket covers outer circumferences of the optical fiber and the pair of tensile strength members. A frictional coefficient of the outer jacket is equal to or less than 0.20. Shore D hardness of the outer jacket is equal to or more than 60.

Optical fiber cable and laying method thereof

An optical fiber cable that sustains reduced increase in transmission loss and optical fiber breakage when subject to external pressure exerted thereon, comprises an aggregate of elements including central buffer filaments disposed in the center part of the optical fiber cable and a plurality of optical fibers disposed around the central buffer filaments, as well as circumferential strength filaments disposed around the outer periphery of the aggregate of elements, and a sheath covering the circumferential strength filaments.
