In an optical disc apparatus, when a signal to be generated corresponding to an amount of reflected light from an optical disc has a signal level below a threshold level for a period exceeding a reference period, a controller controls an actuator to move an objective lens in a direction such that a distance from the optical disc surface to the objective lens increases. The reference period may be set based on a type of the optical disc and a recording or reproducing speed of the optical disc, or based on a surface deflection of the optical disc.

An optical disk device and recording method of recording data on an optical disk by driving a laser light source with a driving current superimposed with a high-frequency current. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer comprises a constituent unit derived from an &#x25a1;-olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and a constituent unit derived from a straight-chain, branched or cyclic polar group-containing monomer having at the end a polar group such as a hydroxyl group or an epoxy group and/or a constituent unit derived from a macromonomer having at the end a polymer segment obtained by anionic polymerization, ring-opening polymerization or polycondensation. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer can be prepared by polymerizing the &#x3b1;-olefin with the polar group-containing monomer and/or the macromonomer in the presence of a metallocene catalyst. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer and the thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer are used for films, sheets, modifiers, building/civil engineering materials, automobile exterior trim, electric/electronic parts, coating bases, compatibilizing agents, etc.

The present invention is a polar group-containing olefin copolymer having excellent adhesion properties to metals or polar resins and excellent compatibility therewith. A process for preparing the copolymer, a thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer, and uses thereof are also described. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer comprises a constituent unit derived from an &#x3b1;-olefin of 2 to 20 carbon atoms, and a constituent unit derived from a straight-chain, branched or cyclic polar group-containing monomer having at the end a polar group such as a hydroxyl group or an epoxy group and/or a constituent unit derived from a macromonomer having at the end a polymer segment obtained by anionic polymerization, ring-opening polymerization or polycondensation. The polar group-containing olefin copolymer and the thermoplastic resin composition containing the copolymer are used for films, sheets, modifiers, building/civil engineering materials, automobile exterior trim, electric/electronic parts, coating bases, compatibilizing agents, etc.

A thermoplastic resin composition (Y) characterized by comprising (A) 20 to 64.9 wt % one or more ethylene copolymers comprising an ethylene/&#x3b1;-olefin copolymer, (B) 35 to 70 wt % metal hydroxide, and (C) 0.1 to 30 wt % grafted ethylene polymer. The resin composition has excellent flame retardancy and has satisfactory pliability/flexibility and excellent tensile properties. It is suitable for use as an insulating material or sheath for electric wires. Also provided are: a polymer composition (Z) having high flame retardancy, characterized by comprising relative to (AA) 100 parts by weight of a polymer such as a thermoplastic polymer or thermosetting polymer, in the ratio of (BB) 50 to 250 parts by weight of a metal hydroxide, (E) 0.1 to 40 parts by weight of a triazine ring containing compound, and (F) 0.1 to 40 parts by weight of a polyhydric alcohol; and a molded object obtained from the polymer composition. These are suitable for use as an insulating material or sheath for electric wires.

Olefin block copolymers (A-1) are disclosed represented by the formula (I) PO-g-B. . . (I) wherein POis a segment comprised of repeating units derived from an olefin having 2 to 20 carbon atoms, gis an ester, ether, amide, imide, urethane, urea, silylether or carbonyl linkage, and Bis a segment containing an unsaturated hydrocarbon or a hetero atom. The olefin block copolymers are suitable for uses in adhesives, various molded articles such as construction and civil engineering materials, automobile interior and exterior materials, gasoline tanks, electric and electronic parts, medical care and sanitation materials, materials of miscellaneous goods, resin materials having environmental degradation properties, films and sheets, modifiers and dispersions.

Olefin block copolymers, processes for producing the same and uses thereof

A soft resin pellet is provided comprising at least one liquid (B) having a kinematic viscosity at 25&#xb0; C. ranging from 0.5 to 100,000 cSt (centistokes) and a surface tension at 25&#xb0; C. ranging from 10 to 50 dyn/cm, and at least one fine powder (C) of an average particle diameter of not more than 50 &#x3bc;m, which fine powder adheres to the surface of pellets of at least one soft resin having a tensile modulus determined according to ASTM D-658 not higher than 1600 Mpa.

This invention relates to fabricated articles, including films or sheets prepared from blends of substantially random ethylene/propylene/vinyl aromatic monomer interpolymers with propylene homopolymers or copolymers. The fabricated articles exhibit high toughness, tensile properties and heat resistance and low stress whitening, and further can exhibit desirable optical properties, especially when in the form of a film or sheet.

Fabricated articles prepared from blends of substantially random ethylene/propylene/vinyl aromatic interpolymers with polypropylene

A propylene polymer composition is prepared by mixing propylene homo- or co-polymer (A) obtained using a transition metal catalyst compound (h), defined herein, with a co-catalyst, e.g., organoaluminum oxy compound, with an olefin elastomer (D) and another olefin polymer (E), e.g., polyethylene. Alternatively, the combination of propylene polymer (A), olefin elastomer (D) and olefin polymer (E) is prepared by a multi-stage polymerization method. In both cases, the propylene homo- or co-polymer (A) may include a second propylene homo- or co-polymer (A') wherein the ratio of intrinsic viscosities of propylene polymers (A) and (A&#x2032;) is in the range of 3 to 30. These propylene polymer compositions are excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength, tensile elongation at break, etc., and can be used in the fabrication of structural materials, films and sheets.

Propylene polymer compositions

A propylene polymer composition comprising a propylene polymer prepared by using a zirconocene catalyst having two aryl-substituted indenyl group and having a melt flow rate (MFR) of 0.01 to 30 g/10 min and a second propylene polymer prepared by using a zirconocene catalyst having a melt flow rate (MFR) of 30 to 1,000 g/10 min and, if desired, a soft polymer, a ratio of the MFR of the second propylene polymer to the MFR of the second propylene polymer being not less than 30. These propylene polymer compositions are excellent in heat resistance, mechanical strength, tensile elongation at break, etc., and hence they can be favorably used for various structural materials such as those of automobile and electrical appliances, daily necessaries, various films and sheets.

The present invention provides a resin composition based on crystalline polypropylene which includes: (a) 3-65% by weight of a component soluble in paraxylene of 23&deg; C., (b) 35-97% by weight of a component soluble in paraxylene of 135&deg; C. and insoluble in paraxylene of 23&deg; C., and (c) 0-30% by weight of a compoent insoluble in paraxylene of 135&deg; C. The component (a) soluble in paraxylene of 23&deg; C. is composed substantially of an elastomeric constituent (a1) having a content of styrene or its derivative in the range of 0-35% by weight and an intrinsic viscosity (n) in the range of 0.1-5 dl/g, the component (b) soluble is paraxylene of 135&deg; C. and insoluble in paraxylene of 23&deg; C. is composed substantially of a crystalline polyproylene constituent (b1) having an isotactic pentad proportion (mmmm) of 97% or higher, a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) of 6 or higher and a molecular weight distribution (Mz/Mw) of 6 or higher and the component (c) insoluble in paraxylene of 135&deg; C. is composed substantially of a filler (c1).

Resin composition based on crystalline polypropylene

Crystalline polypropylene contains components insoluble in 64&deg; C. decane satisfying the characteristics involving intrinsic viscosity; Mz/Mn; pentadvisotacticity, D value and Mw/Mn, are excellent in hardness and rigidity, high in melt tension, and excellent in molding properties. Processes for preparing such crystalline polypropylenes, and polypropylene compositions and thermoformed products that contain such crystalline polypropylenes are also described. The number-average molecular weight Mn of the components insoluble in 64&deg; C. decane is preferably 25000 or more.

A polypropylene resin composition for use in automotive inner and outer trims, comprising 50 to 85% by weight of a crystalline polypropylene (A) having an MFR (230&deg; C.) of 7 to 70 g/10 min, 2 to 16% by weight of a hydrogenated block copolymer (B) obtained by hydrogenating at a hydrogenation ratio of at least 90% an aromatic vinyl/conjugated diene block copolymer which contains an aromatic vinyl block polymer unit in an amount of 22% by weight or less and has an MFR (230&deg; C.) of at least 5 g/10 min, and 5 to 25% by weight of an inorganic filler (G) having an average particle size of 0.1 to 3 &mgr;m as essential components. This composition may contain, as optional components, another hydrogenated block copolymer (C), an aromatic hydrocarbon copolymer (D), a crystalline polyethylene (E) and a soft ethylene/&agr;-olefin copolymer (F). This composition is excellent in heat resistance, rigidity and impact resistance and can provide a molding having beautiful appearance.
