It is an object of the present invention to provide a catalyst that is excellent in stability even at a high catalyst-regeneration temperature. It is another object of the present invention to provide a process for producing an aromatic hydrocarbon from a lower hydrocarbon by using the above catalyst. The catalyst composition comprises molybdenum, a second metal that is not molybdenum, and a crystalline metallosilicate, wherein the content of molybdenum is 1 to 20% by weight in terms of a molybdenum atom, and the content of the second metal is 2 to 20% by weight in terms of a metal atom.

A process is provided which is capable of producing olefins stably and efficiently by a metathesis reaction of identical or different olefins while preventing the lowering in metathesis catalyst activity due to trace impurities such as heteroatom-containing compounds that are contained in a starting olefin. The olefin production process includes supplying a starting olefin containing more than 0 ppm by weight to not more than 10 ppm by weight of one or more kinds of heteroatom-containing compounds to a reactor that contains a metathesis catalyst and an isomerization catalyst, the metathesis catalyst including at least one metal element selected from the group consisting of tungsten, molybdenum and rhenium, the isomerization catalyst including calcined hydrotalcite or yttrium oxide, and performing a metathesis reaction of identical or different olefins.

Disclosed is a photocatalyst comprising a photocatalytically active base, and a silicon oxide film covering the base and substantially having no pores. The alkali metal content of the photocatalyst is not less than 1 ppm but not more than 1,000 ppm. Also disclosed is a method for producing such a photocatalyst wherein when a photocatalytically active base present in an aqueous medium is coated with a silicon oxide film by using a silicate, the pH of the aqueous medium containing both the photocatalytically active base and the silicate is maintained at 5 or below.

The present invention relates to a titanium compound produced from a reaction mixture of a titanium tetraalkoxide compound with water and an optically active ligand represented by the following general formula (1), or a titanium oxoalkoxide compound and an optically active ligand represented by the following general formula (1),  wherein, in the formula, R, Rand Rindependently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or the like, and A* represents a hydrocarbon-containing group with three or more carbon atoms having an asymmetric carbon atom or axial asymmetry. The invention further relates to a process for producing optically active cyanohydrins which is characterized by reacting a carbonyl compound with a cyanating agent in the presence of such a titanium compound.

Titanium compound and process for producing optically active cyanohydrins

The present invention provides a catalyst for polyester production capable of producing a polyester with high catalytic activity, a process for producing a polyester using the catalyst and a polyester produced thereby. The catalyst comprises a solid titanium compound obtained by dehydro-drying a hydrolyzate obtained by hydrolysis of a titanium halide and which has a molar ratio (OH/Ti) of a hydroxyl group (OH) to titanium (Ti) exceeding 0.09 and less than 4. In the process, the polyester is obtained by polycondensing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, or an ester-forming derivative thereof, and an aliphatic diol, or ester-forming derivative thereof, in the presence of the catalyst. The resulting polyester has excellent transparency and tint, a titanium content of 1 to 100 ppm, a magnesium content of 1 to 200 ppm and a magnesium to titanium weight ratio of not less than 0.01.

The present invention provides a catalyst for polyester production capable of producing a polyester with high catalytic activity and a process for producing a polyester using the catalyst. The catalyst for polyester production comprises a solid titanium compound which is obtained by dehydro-drying a hydrolyzate obtained by hydrolysis of a titanium halide and which has a molar ratio (OH/Ti) of a hydroxyl group (OH) to titanium (Ti) exceeding 0.09 and less than 4. The present invention also provides a method to obtain a polyester having a small increase of the acetaldehyde content during the molding. This method comprises bringing a polyester, which is obtained by the use of a titanium compound catalyst and in which the reaction has been completed, into contact with a phosphoric ester aqueous solution or the like having a concentration of not less than 10 ppm in terms of phosphorus atom. The present invention further provides a polyester having excellent transparency and tint and molded products of the polyester such as a blow molded article, a film, a sheet and a fiber. The polyester is obtained by polycondensing an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof and an aliphatic diol or an ester-forming derivative thereof in the presence of a catalyst for polyester production which comprises a polycondensation catalyst component comprising a solid titanium compound and a co-catalyst component comprising a magnesium compound. This polyester has a titanium content of 1 to 100 ppm, a magnesium content of 1 to 200 ppm and a weight ratio (Mg/Ti) of magnesium to titanium of not less than 0.01.

A copper catalyst obtained by reducing a precursor containing copper and aluminum and not containing substantially malachite and aluminum hydroxide permits preparation of amides with a high productivity and in a high selectivity by the hydration of nitrites.
