A multilayer circuit board is provided having an inner porous fluororesin layer containing electrical circuits, a ground conductor layer located adjacent the fluororesin layer on one side thereof and a power supply conductor layer located adjacent the fluororesin layer on the other side thereof, and a reinforcing, solid plastic dielectric layer adjacent each conductor layer and being external to the inner fluororesin layer. In an alternate embodiment, the multilayer circuit board may have a plurality of inner porous fluororesin layers, at least one fluororesin layer containing electrical circuits, and may have ground conductors and power supply conductors adjacent each fluororesin layer, and reinforcing, solid plastic dielectric layers on the outermost surfaces of the circuit board assembly. The ground and power supply conductor layers extend over the entire surfaces, respectively, of the inner fluororesin layers.

Multilayer circuit board

A cooling device is provided for use in cooling surrounding human tissue during hyperthermia treatment of a cancerous tumor. The device comprises at least one tube constructed of a fluororesin having continuous pores, such as porous, expanded polytetrafluoroethylene, placed in a desired configuration adjacent the tissue to be cooled, and through which flows a coolant. Microwaves used in hyperthermia treatment of cancerous tumors can pass through the device and heat the tumor to be treated to a higher degree than heretofore possible because the adjacent noncancerous tissue can now be cooled. Because the tube is porous, the cooling effect is pronounced.

A printed circuit board is provided wherein a composite metal layer is affixed to at least one surface of a flexible dielectric substrate, the composite metal layer comprising an inner aluminum layer and an outer copper layer. Owing to the relatively high elongation of the aluminum layer, when the printed circuit board is flexed the circuit thereon does not crack.

Flexible printed circuit board

A temperature sensor is provided comprising an electrical temperature sensing element such as a thermistor and a pair of high-resistance conductors of conductive fluorocarbon resin which are electrically connected to the electrical temperature sensing element. The conductors of conductive fluorocarbon resin are disposed on opposite surfaces of a body of fluorocarbon resin. The electrical temperature sensing element may be sandwiched between the pair of high-resistance conductors. Alternatively, the temperature sensor comprises a temperature sensing element held in place and in electrical contact between a pair of conductive fluorocarbon sheets, the sheets being fused one to each side of an electrically insulative sheet of fluorocarbon resin, thereby forming a laminated composite in sheet form, the laminate being vertically separated along its longitudinal axis remote from the temperature sensing element, thereby providing a 4-lead temperature sensor. The temperature sensor thus constructed may be used in microwave therapy as it is less subjected to rejection by human body tissues and does not reflect applied microwaves.

Temperature sensor

A sensor for detecting leaks of a corrosive liquid is provided comprising a pair of plate electrodes made of a conductive metal which is corroded by the liquid to be detected spaced apart and separated by an inner sheet of an electrically insulating material, the inner sheet having a plurality of through-holes, this entire construction being sealingly encased between a pair of outer insulating sheets, at least one of which has a plurality of through-holes. In use, if a leak occurs the liquid passes through the through-holes in the outer insulating sheet, dissolves a portion of one electrode and passes through the through-holes in the inner sheet to the second electrode, causing a short circuit resulting in a rapid and accurately measurable decrease in the resistance in the circuit and, therefore, detection of the leak.

Sensor for detecting leaks of corrosive liquid

In a device for detecting oil leaks and the like on a surface of water such as a moat around an oil storage tank, a vibrator is placed which substantially eliminates extraneous matter attaching to or depositing on the sensor and thereby enhances the conditions for leak detection.

Leak detecting device

A temperature sensor is provided comprising a conductor having a low-melting-point, a fibrous insulating layer adjacent the low-melting-point conductor and separating it from a second conductor. An oscillator applying a pulse signal to the sensor and a receiver receiving the pulse signal through the sensor can detect changes in the signal wave form due to melting or distortion of the low-melting-point conductor. The specific temperature to be sensed can be preset by providing preheating of the sensor, as by Joule heating, by passing a current through the low-melting-point conductor.

Temperature sensor for cables

A liquid leak detecting sensor in the form of a coaxial cable assembly is provided in which means are provided for enhancing the passage of leaks from the outer surface of the outer conductor into the sensing layer which separates the inner and outer conductors. The change in permittivity of the sensing layer caused by the leak enables rapid detection of the location of the leak along the cable.

Liquid leak sensor

An improved floating sensor for the detection of oil leaks at a water surface is provided wherein a cloth layer is affixed to the outside of a leak detector which, by capillary action, results in a threshold level of oil film thickness below which no alarm sounds and above which an alarm will sound. The invention provides means for the pre-selection of the thickness of oil film which will be detected and eliminates the detection of very thin, inconsequential oil leaks.

Oil leak detector

Oil floating on the surface of a body of water can be detected by the floating sensor of this invention which comprises a float having a central opening vertically therethrough and containing an electrical sensor, the lead wire connected to the sensor extending downwardly through the opening, forming a U-bend and extending upwardly through the opening to alarm means. A weight at the U-bend provides for automatic height adjustment of the detector as the surface of the body of water raises or lowers.
