The present invention provides a liquid crystal display panel and a liquid crystal display device presenting a reduced color addition and an improved bright room contrast. The liquid crystal display panel of the present invention includes wirings made of a metal having at least 90% reflection over a wavelength region within the visible light region, where the reflectance of the liquid crystal panel over a wavelength range of 600 to 700 nm at the display surface is no greater than 150% of the reflectance at the wavelength of 550 nm at the display surface.

Disclosed is a substrate for a display device, wherein generation of a region which is not filled with the components of a liquid material is suppressed by simple processes during the formation of color layers by a coating method such as an inkjet method using the liquid material, thereby achieving good display quality. Also disclosed are a method for manufacturing the substrate for a display device, and a display device. The substrate for a display device comprises, on a principal surface thereof, banks formed of a resin material, and color layers arranged in a plurality of pixel regions surrounded by the banks. The color layers are formed of the liquid material, and the bank is provided with an impregnated region containing the components of the liquid material.

The present invention provides a display device using a copper wiring and having high display properties in which without preventing a higher aperture ratio of the pixel, coloring of a screen due to reflected light of external light produced within the display device can be prevented. The display device according to the present invention is a display device including a plurality of pixel regions, wherein each of the pixel regions includes a copper wiring containing copper or an alloy thereof, and a red-colored layer and a colored layer of another color; and an area of the copper wiring is smaller in the pixel region including the red-colored layer than in the pixel region including the colored layer of another color, the area of the copper wiring reflecting incident light entering from the display surface side of the display device.

The present invention provides a substrate for display device, in which display quality can be improved by suppressing generation of a region not filled with liquid material for functional film (ink) in formation of a functional film, such as a colored layer in a color filter substrate of a liquid crystal display device and an organic layers such as a luminous layer and a positive hole transporting layer in an organic electroluminescent display device, by an application method such as an ink jet method, and a liquid crystal display panel, a liquid crystal display device and an organic electroluminescent device each comprising the substrate for display device. The substrate for display device according to the present invention comprises a bank on the substrate, the bank having a structure with a chamfered corner.

A double-sided display which can suitable carry out black display both in a well-lighted place and a dark place is provided. A twisted nematic liquid crystal display device conducts a display operation in Normally Black mode. The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal cell and two polarizers. The liquid crystal cell includes two substrates and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between them. The two polarizers face each other with the liquid crystal cell interposed between them. The liquid crystal display device further includes: a first optical compensator provided between one of the two polarizers and the liquid crystal cell so as to compensate for the wavelength dependence of the angle of rotation of polarized light passing through the liquid crystal layer in a black display state; and a second optical compensator provided between the first optical compensator and that polarizer so as to compensate for the wavelength dependence of the ellipticity of the polarized light passing through the liquid crystal layer in the black display state.

A color filter includes a black matrix and a color section. The black matrix has a plurality of partition sections extended alongside each other with a gap region therebetween. The color section is in a gap region of the black matrix. The color section is formed by applying a film material into the gap region of the black matrix by the ink-jet method, and then curing the film material thus applied. The black matrix has a protrusion section by which the gap region is partially narrowed. In applying the film material, the protrusion section functions as a barrier against the film material flowing, in the gap region. This prevents color mixing and uneven color density while maintaining high productivity.

A liquid crystal display device of a transflective type of the present invention is so arranged that a transparent electrode and a reflective electrode that compose a pixel do not match in position with each other, and the reflective electrode straddles a gate bus line and a source bus line. With this, a transparent electrode and a reflective electrode that are adjacent to each other without being electrically connected are arranged so as to overlap with each other, when viewed in the normal direction of the display surface, thereby eliminating an inter-pixel region therebetween. This reduces a ratio of the inter-pixel region with respect to the display screen, so that it is possible to further improve a pixel aperture ratio and to improve light utilization efficiency.

A method of manufacturing a color filter in accordance with the present invention includes: (i) a latent image forming step in which, with respect to a polysilane film, first and second exposure processes having different exposure patterns and different ultraviolet light exposure amounts are carried out, and colorants are applied to the polysilane film on which first and second latent images are formed; and a coloration step in which the first and second latent images are colored by applying colorants thereto. With this, it is possible to form a first density area corresponding to transmissive image reproduction and a second density area corresponding to a second density area. Accordingly a high-quality color filter for multi-scene displays can be manufactured with fewer manufacturing steps.
