A rotation speed measuring machine for a flying globe is formed of a light projecting device 10 projecting light on a measurement conducting area A which is a space including an expected flying route of a flying globe B after the globe has been hit at a hitting position, a light receiving device 20 which receives reflection light from the flying globe flying in the measurement conducting area A and which outputs a signal according to the fluctuation of the amount of reflected light, and a rotational speed detecting means 30 detecting the rotational speed of the flying globe B based on the output signal from the light receiving device 20 in order to measure the rotational speed of the flying globe B by putting a mark M having a light reflectance rate different from the reflectance rate of the surface texture on a part of the surface of the flying globe B and by detecting the amount of reflected light from the mark. The amount of spin of the flying globe B is measured at around the highest point of the flight locus.

A tire grooving apparatus according to the present invention consists of a movable block (5) movable at least in a lateral direction parallel with a tire support shaft, a vertically movable block (7) provided on the movable blocks, and a pivotable arm (81) provided on the block (7) and having a cutter support device (9) at the free end portion thereof, characterized in that the apparatus is further provided with a center deviation detector (13) for detecting a deviation of center line of a tire tread surface, or both the center deviation detector (13) and a lateral runout detector (14). A method and an apparatus for compensating a radial deflection and/or a lateral deflection in tire grooving wherein a cutter movement is controlled by a plurality of operating shafts and a desired pattern grooves are formed in a tire surface, wherein the radial deflection in a direction along diameter of the tire, which is supported by a tire supporting shaft, and/or the lateral deflection in a direction along diameter of the tire are detected before or during tire grooving, an a radially driving member, which moves a cutter in a direction along diameter of the tire, and/or a laterally driving member, which moves a cutter in a direction along width of the tire, are actuated in accordance with a reference program, and concurrently a movement of the radially driving member and/or a movement of the laterally driving member are adjusted in accordance with a correction program based on the detected deflection value in order to follow the radial deflection and/or the lateral deflection. The method and apparatus forms a groove having a desired constant depth and a desired constant width at a desired constant position from the tire tread center and simplifies the structure of the program to allow a smaller size of the apparatus.

A cutter supporting unit for a tire grooving apparatus having a tire supporting shaft and a cutter supporting unit which brings a cutter in or out of contact with a tire held by the tire supporting shaft, wherein that said cutter supporting unit includes a cutter holder which holds the cutter and a cutter supporting frame to which the cutter holder is releasably connected. The unit largely reduces time and labor necessary for the cutter replacement and improves tire grooving productivity.
