An object of the invention is to provide an artificial hair fiber bundle having a color tone with a gradation appearance at a tip portion thereof. An aspect of the invention is a fiber bundle () for artificial hair, with one end () thereof being bundled and fixed. The fiber bundle includes fibers (A, B) of two or more kinds having color tones different from each other, the fiber bundle being obtained by a heat treatment at a predetermined temperature. The fibers of two or more kinds have heat shrinkage rates different from each other, and a tip portion of the fiber (A) out of the fibers of two or more kinds emerges in a portion () corresponding to the other end of the fiber bundle () which is not bundled and fixed.

An artificial hair which is composed of synthetic fibers such as acrylic fibers or vinyl chloride fibers and which is characterized in that the cross section of each fiber has a shape consisting of one major axis and at least two minor axes nearly perpendicular to the major axis and that the single-fiber fineness is 25 to 70 dtex. This artificial hair is soft to the touch and bulky (voluminous) to impart a good feel to hair accessories and exhibits excellent combing properties and braidability, thus giving hair accessories (such as wigs, hairpieces, braids, extension hair and doll hair) which have excellent feel and settability.

Porous acrylic fibers produced by a method comprising subjecting a spinning dope containing 0.3 to 20 parts by weight of poly(vinyl acetate) relative to 100 parts of an acrylic copolymer to a wet spinning to give fibers, crimping and cutting the fibers, subjecting the resultant fibers to a treatment by hot water at 90 to 100&deg; C. for 30 to 120 minutes or by saturated steam at 90 to 130&deg; C. for 10 to 90 minutes to thereby form porous fibers; and a pile fabric having pile portions which comprise the porous fibers in an amount of 3 wt % or more, and, in the pile fabric, respective single fibers are visible being separate and emphasized, and thus the pile fabric has an appearance being highly decorative and excellent in design characteristics.

A hollow shrinkable fiber is manufactured by wet spinning a copolymer of acrylonitrile and a halogen-containing vinyl monomer, and then carrying out steam treatment, followed by drying treatment, and then heat treatment, thus forming a marrow-like or network-like hollow portion comprising a large number of voids in a core part of the fiber cross section. The void ratio of the fiber cross section is 10 to 50%, and the dry heat shrinkage percentage of the fiber is at least 15%. The fiber has a hollow form similar to that of natural fur, is excellent in terms of bulkiness, a lightweight feeling and warmth retention, and can be used as down hairs in pile products.

A synthetic fiber of acrylic series having an excellent animal-hair feeling is provided. The surface of the fiber having unevenness, in which the center-line mean roughness of the outer periphery of the cross-section of the fiber lies within a range of 0.01 to 0.13 .mu.m, is adhered thereon with an organopolysiloxane, wherein an effect by a treatment with silicone may be obtained to a greatest extent to provide the fiber having an extremely excellent animal-hair feeling. The kinds and amounts of additives to be added to a spinning solution may be so controlled that the roughness of unevenness on the surface of the fiber lies within the above range, thereby the appearance of the fiber with or without gloss may be selected. When the roughness of the surface unevenness lies within the above range and the cross-section of the fiber is a circle, or a flat or oval section having an aspect radio of 10 or less, a fiber having an extremely excellent animal-hair feeling may be obtained.
