Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for discovering silent hosts in a software-defined network and directing traffic to the silent hosts in a scalable and targeted manner include determining interfaces of a fabric device that are connected to respective one or more endpoints, where the fabric device is configured to connect the endpoints to a network fabric of the software-defined network. At least a first interface is identified, where an address of a first endpoint connected to the first interface is not available at the fabric device. A first notification is transmitted to a control plane of the software-defined network based on identifying the first interface, where the control plane may create a flood list which includes the fabric device. Traffic intended for the first endpoint from the network fabric is received by the fabric device can be based on the flood list.

Detecting and communicating with silent hosts in software-defined networks

This disclosure describes techniques to operate a control plane in a network fabric. The techniques include determining a stateless rule corresponding to communication between a first segment of the network fabric and a second segment of the network fabric. The techniques further include configuring the control plane to enforce the stateless rule.

Enforcement of inter-segment traffic policies by network fabric control plane

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for provisioning a common subnet across a number of subscribers and their respective virtual networks using dynamically generated network policies that provide isolation between the subscribers. The dynamic generation of the network policies is performed when a host (e.g. client) is detected (via a switch) as the host joins the computing network via virtual networks. This ability to configure a common subnet for all the subscriber virtual networks allows these subscribers to more easily access external shared services coming from a headquarter site while keeping the separation and segmentation of multiple subscriber virtual networks within a single subnet. This allows the Enterprise fabric to be more simple and convenient to deploy without making security compromises.

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for communicating policy changes in a Locator/ID Separation Protocol (LISP) based network deployment include receiving, at a first routing device, a first notification from a map server, the first notification indicating a change in a policy for LISP based communication between at least a first endpoint device and at least a second endpoint device, the first endpoint device being connected to a network fabric through the first routing device and the second endpoint device being connected to the network fabric through a second routing device. The first routing device forwards a second notification to the second routing device if one or more entries of a first map cache implemented by the first routing device are affected by the policy change, the second notification indicating a set of one or more endpoints connected to the second routing device that are affected by the policy change.

Communication of policy changes in LISP-based software defined networks

Presented herein are techniques to provide an endpoint in a multi-site Software-defined network (SDN) fabric with an Internet access route that is optimal for the specific site in which the endpoint is located. In particular, a control plane node in a first site of a multi-site SDN fabric registers a border node in the first site as a Default Egress Tunnel Router (ETR) for Internet access or unknown endpoint identifier (EID) of the first site. The first site includes at least one endpoint. The control plane node receives a request for Internet access for the at least one endpoint and provides a dynamically-selected Internet access route via a same or different virtual instance (e.g., Virtual Routing and Forwarding (VRF) function(s), Virtual Private Network(s) (VPNs), Virtual Networks (VNs), etc.) for Internet traffic sent by the at least one endpoint.

Optimized internet access in a multi-site software-defined network fabric

Presented herein are systems, and methods thereof, that is configured to enter a maintenance mode to isolate itself from its neighbor and to gracefully cause neighbor devices to isolate themselves from the system, as to cause minimal or 'zero' service disruption with its neighbors. The system broadcasts a maintenance-related message, via a standard transport layer, over routing protocols, to counter parts protocols at the neighbor device and waits for an acknowledgement message from the neighbor network devices. The broadcast and acknowledgement, through standard transport layer messaging, ensures that traffic generated by such protocols at the neighbor devices, regardless of manufacturer, are redirected before the system fully enters into the maintenance mode.

Methods and systems for neighbor-acknowledged graceful insertion/removal protocol

In one embodiment, a method generally includes a first edge (E) node in a network receiving an encapsulated data packet, wherein the encapsulated data packet comprises an outer header and a data packet, wherein the outer header comprises a first router locator (RLOC) corresponding to the first E node, wherein the data packet comprises an internet protocol (IP) header, and wherein the IP header comprises a destination endpoint identification (EID) corresponding to a host H. The first E node determines whether the host H is attached to the first E node. And in response to the first E node determining the host is attached to the first E node, the first E node forwards the data packet to the host H. The first E node receives a message from another node after the host H detaches from the first E node and reattaches to another E node, wherein the message comprises the destination EID.

Mechanism and procedures for multi-domain enterprise fabric domain federations

In one embodiment, a method is performed at a node in a multi-site enterprise fabric. The method includes obtaining map entries from a fabric control plane of the multi-site enterprise fabric, where the map entries are associated with identifiers of endpoints in external networks, site and virtual network identifiers of sites in the multi-site enterprise fabric, location identifiers of border nodes, and characteristics of the border nodes. The method further includes receiving a request from a source to connect to an external endpoint. After deriving an external endpoint identifier and source parameters, the method additionally includes establishing at least one connection between the source and the external endpoint via border node(s) that are selected from the map entries based at least in part on the source parameters, the external endpoint identifier, and characteristics of the border node(s) with their site and virtual network identifier(s) along the at least one connection.

Method, node, and medium for establishing connection between a source and endpoint via one or more border nodes

Systems, methods, and computer-readable media for preserving source host context when firewall policies are applied to traffic in an enterprise network fabric. A data packet to a destination host from a source host can be received at a first border node instance in an enterprise network fabric as part of network traffic. The data packet can include a context associated with the source host. Further, the data packet can be sent to a firewall of the enterprise network fabric and can be received at a second border node instance after the firewall applies a firewall policy to the data packet. The data packet can then be selectively encapsulated with the context associated with the source host at the second border node instance for applying one or more policies to control transmission of the network traffic through the enterprise network fabric.
