The disclosure is directed to polymer compositions comprising a matrix polymer component comprising a crystalline or semi-crystalline polymer; and a fibrillated fluoropolymer, a fibrillated fluoropolymer encapsulated by an encapsulating polymer, or a combination thereof. Methods of preparing and using these polymer compositions, as well as articles comprising the polymer compositions, as also described.

Fibrillated polymer compositions and methods of their manufacture

Disclosed is a method for substantially diminishing or essentially eliminating a visible knitline in an article derived from a resinous composition comprising at least one thermoplastic resin and at least one special visual effect additive, which comprises the steps of (i) including in the composition an effective amount of at least one chemical foaming agent, and (ii) forming the article in a process that produces a knitline, wherein the article exhibits a substantially diminished or essentially no visible knitline compared to a similar article prepared without chemical foaming agent. Also disclosed are resinous compositions related thereto. Articles made from the compositions are also disclosed.

A polymer composition is disclosed, which comprises a matrix polymer, a fluoropolymer that may be at least partially encapsulated by an encapsulating polymer, and a filler. Methods for making the polymer compositions and articles made of such compositions are also disclosed. The compositions and article can have improved tensile modulus, ductility, and/or impact properties.

Polymer compositions, method of manufacture, and articles formed therefrom

Multi-layer composite structures offer improved weatherability and adhesion to fiber-reinforced plastic substrates when compared to structures now available. These composites have an outer layer made from a polyacrylate, a second layer made from an acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate rubber terpolymer; a third layer made from an ABS polymer; and optionally a fourth layer made from a polyacrylate. The layers include one or more layers having an improvement selected from among: (a) the improvement wherein the second layer is made from an acrylate-modified acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate rubber terpolymer; (b) the improvement wherein the third layer is a modified ABS that further includes a polymer modifier that decreases the softening of the ABS on contact with styrene, and an acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate rubber terpolymer; and (c) the improvement wherein the fourth layer is present and is a polyacrylate. This composite can be applied to a fiber-reinforced plastic substrate such as fiberglass as a coating.

Multi-layer composites

The present invention relates to a rubber modified thermoplastic resin composition comprising a discontinuous elastomeric phase dispersed in a rigid thermoplastic phase, wherein at least a portion of the rigid thermoplastic phase is grafted to the elastomeric phase, which is prepared by a method comprising the steps of: (a) polymerizing a mixture of monomers in a first stage in the presence of the elastomeric phase, at least one of which monomers is selected from the group consisting of vinyl aromatic monomers and at least one of which monomers is selected from the group consisting of monoethylenically unsaturated nitrile monomers, followed by (b) polymerizing one or more monomers in at least one subsequent stage in the presence of the elastomeric phase from (a), wherein the one or more monomers comprise at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of (C-C)alkyl- and aryl-(meth)acrylate monomers. The method is also provided.

Impact-modified compositions and method

A flame retardant composition is provided containing (a) an aromatic polycarbonate resin, (b) a rubber modified graft copolymer, (c) a vinyl aromatic-unsaturated nitrile rigid copolymer, (d) a phosphate and (e) a tetrafluoroethylene polymer. The compositions contain elevated rubber loadings and/or utilize low molecular weight polycarbonate and/or low molecular weight vinyl aromatic-vinyl cyanide rigid copolymer. The composition exhibits enhanced retention of izod impact properties upon exposure to heat and humidity. The compositions are useful for making pellets which are stored and/or shipped in hot humid conditions, and which are then utilized for making molded business machine housings.

Flame retardant polycarbonate/graft copolymer blends exhibiting heat aging stability

Rubber modified weatherable styrenic blends with improved transparency and colorability are disclosed. A matrix phase of poly(alkyl alkylacrylate) and vinyl carboxylic acid ester-vinyl aromatic-vinyl cyanide terpolymer is combined with a rubbery graft phase of a poly(alkyl acrylate) rubber substrate grafted with a vinyl aromatic-vinyl cyanide superstrate copolymer to provide acrylate-styrene-acrylonitrile type (ASA) compositions.
