A frozen material prevention system for preventing a freezable material in a fluid flow from freezing and accumulating frozen material in a flow path, including, a surface configured to interact with a freezable-material-miscible (FMM) liquid to retain the FMM liquid to the surface. The system can include the FMM liquid. The FMM liquid can be configured to absorb the freezable material to prevent freezing and accumulation of frozen material on the surface.

Methods for sulfonating an alkylated cyclohexylbenzene compound prepared from a cyclohexylbenzene compound that has been alkylated with an olefin of formula RRCCH, wherein Ris a C-Chydrocarbyl group, and Ris H or a C-Chydrocarbyl group may comprise contacting the alkylated cyclohexylbenzene compound with a sulfonating reagent; forming a sulfonated reaction product; and converting the sulfonated reaction product into a sulfonate salt.

Amphiphilic cyclohexylbenzene compounds derived from alpha olefins or vinylidene alpha olefin dimers

Amphiphilic biphenyl compounds derived from alpha olefins or vinylidene alpha olefin dimers

A low transition temperature mixture (LTTM) or deep eutectic solvent (DES) useful as a lubricating oil base stock and lubricating oil including a eutectic mixture of at least a first component and at least a second component. The at least first component comprises a hydrogen bond acceptor and the at least second component comprises a hydrogen bond donor. The eutectic mixture includes an equilibrium phase between the at least first component and the at least second component. The equilibrium phase does not exhibit physical characteristics of the at least first component in an unmixed state and the at least second component in an unmixed state. The at least first component and the at least second component form an intermolecular interaction between each other sufficient to prevent crystallization of the at least first component and the at least second component in the eutectic mixture. The eutectic mixture is a liquid at 20&#xb0; C.

Low transition temperature mixtures or deep eutectic solvents and processes for preparation thereof

Low transition temperature mixtures (LTTMs) comprising a eutectic mixture of a quaternary amine and a polyol such as glycol are provided. The LTTMs can provide various beneficial properties, such as highly desirable viscosity index, low glass transition temperatures, and/or high kinematic viscosities relative to the molecular weight of the mixture components. The mixtures can be advantageously used as co-base stocks in lubricating oil compositions.

This disclosure provides a process for producing vinylidene dimer derivatives by subjecting one or more vinylidene dimers and one or more carbonyl-containing compounds to a carbonyl-ene reaction, optionally in the presence of a catalyst, to produce one or more vinylidene dimer derived alcohols. This disclosure also provides a process for producing vinylidene dimer derivatives by reacting one or more vinylidene dimers with one or more carbonyl-containing compounds, optionally in the presence of a catalyst, to produce one or more vinylidene dimer derived alcohols. This disclosure further provides vinylidene dimer derivatives (e.g., vinylidene dimer derived alcohols and esters) produced by these processes. This disclosure still further provides for hydrogenating/reacting the vinylidene dimer derived alcohols with acids or anhydrides to produce vinylidene dimer derived esters. This disclosure yet further relates to lubricating ester oil base stocks, and lubricating oils containing the lubricating ester oil base stocks.

A composition including one or more monomethyl ester compounds represented by the formula: Ris a monomethyl branched Cto Calkyl group and Ris an unsubstituted Cto Clinear alkyl group. The composition has a viscosity (Kv) from 1 cSt to 10 cSt at 100&#xb0; C. as determined by ASTM D445, a viscosity index (VI) from &#x2212;100 to 300 as determined by ASTM D2270, a pour point from 0&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;50&#xb0; C. as determined by ASTM D97, and a Noack volatility of no greater than 50 percent as determined by ASTM D5800. A process for producing the composition, a lubricating oil base stock and lubricating oil containing the composition, and a method for improving one or more of cold flow properties, thermal and oxidative stability, solubility and dispersancy of polar additives, deposit control and traction control in a lubricating oil by using as the lubricating oil a formulated oil containing the composition.
