A spent catalyst distributor for distributing spent catalyst in a catalyst regenerator vessel housing a dense phase catalyst bed and a dilute phase catalyst bed. The spent catalyst distributor comprises a conduit comprising a proximal end and a distal end. The conduit projects horizontally or horizontally and downwardly into the regenerator vessel and includes an opening located at the distal end for introducing the spent catalyst at a first location inside the regenerator vessel. The conduit further includes a plurality of orifices located along a length of the conduit between the distal end and an inner wall of the regenerator vessel for introducing the spent catalyst at a plurality of locations inside the regenerator vessel.

An apparatus and a method for achieving progressive reduction of flue gas is disclosed. Accordingly, an aspect of the present invention is to provide an apparatus comprising of an orifice chamber having an inlet pipe for receiving the flue gas, a flow region defined downstream of an exit of the inlet pipe and having at least a first section and a second section, and an outlet pipe to disperse a pressure reduced flue gas. The first section defined downstream of the inlet pipe has a flow developer means and at least one auxiliary orifice plate. The second section defined downstream of the first section has a plurality of orifice plates spaced apart along a flow length of the second section.

The present invention relates to a process for the production of high quality synthesis gas rich in hydrogen during the process of upgrading the residual hydrocarbon oil feedstock by rejuvenating the spent upgrading material in Reformer in absence of air/oxygen without supplying external heat source other than the heat generated inside the process during combustion of residual coke deposited on the upgrading material. The apparatus comprises of an inner conduit having a first inlet for receiving the hydrocarbon stream, and a second inlet for receiving a primary dispersion stream. The inner conduit produces a primary mixture comprising the hydrocarbon stream and the primary dispersion stream. The apparatus further includes an outer conduit having a third inlet for receiving a secondary dispersion stream. Further, said inner and outer conduits together define an annular passage. The distal end of the annular passage defines a second set of orifices for allowing the secondary dispersion stream flowing there-through to come in contact with the primary mixture and thereby dispensing the secondary mixture so obtained through an outlet.

Apparatus and method for converting liquid stream into fine droplets

An apparatus which is an integral hardware consisting of an annular downer reactor and a concentric upflow riser regenerator for catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon feed to is disclosed. The annular downer reactor terminates in annular stripper which is also concentric with the regenerator. The regenerator, reactor and stripper are in fluid connection with each other. The apparatus is highly compact and provides efficient contact between circulating catalyst and hydrocarbon feed. The proposed hardware includes a novel radial distributor for providing improved control and radial distribution of catalyst inside the downflow reactor. The radial distributor has equal numbers of stationary and movable parts placed one after another to cover the entire annular opening at the bottom of the regenerated catalyst vessel. The radial distributor is concentric with regenerator and located between the catalyst holding vessel and the reactor. A process for catalytic cracking using the invented apparatus is also disclosed.

Process for fluid catalytic cracking

A process and apparatus for catalytic cracking of hydrocarbon feedstock employing circulating fluidized bed reactor-regenerator configuration for maximizing the yield of propylene (C3 olefin) is disclosed. The apparatus comprises two reaction zones operating under different temperature and weight hourly space velocity (WHSV), one primary zone for cracking of hydrocarbon feedstock and other as secondary zone for cracking of C4 fraction produced from the cracking of hydrocarbon feedstock in the primary reaction zone, optionally admixed with C4 stream from external source. Two dedicated conduits equipped with valves for control of catalyst flow rate are provided to supply the hot catalyst from a common catalyst regeneration zone wherein the catalyst flowing though conduit connected to the secondary reaction zone is cooled employing a heat exchanging device. The lower temperature achieved in secondary reaction zone on account of exchange of heat along with lower weight hourly space velocity (WHSV) selectively promotes oligomerization of C4 fraction before being cracked to produce C3 olefin in the subsequent portion of the reaction zone (primary).

The present invention discloses a method and an apparatus for mixing and atomizing a hydrocarbon stream using a diluent/dispersion stream. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises: an inner conduit and an outer conduit concentric to each other to define an annular space, said outer conduit having an inlet for receiving the hydrocarbon stream and an outlet for dispensing a mixture comprising the hydrocarbon and the dispersion/diluent streams; a diluent/dispersion steam distributor being in connection with the inner conduit and defining a central orifice and a first set of orifices, said first set of orifices adapted to direct a first portion of the dispersion/diluent stream into the annular space and said central orifice adapted to direct a second portion of the diluent/dispersion stream into the inner conduit; at least one contraction member and expansion member, said contraction member located downstream of the first set of orifices and said expansion member located downstream said expansion member; the inner conduit located downstream of said expansion member comprises a second set of orifices, said second set of orifices disposed on a periphery of the inner conduit and adapted to dispense a second portion of the dispersion/diluent stream into the annular space.

The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for mixing and atomizing a hydrocarbon stream using a diluent/dispersion stream. The apparatus includes an inner conduit having an inlet for receiving the diluent/dispersion stream; an outer conduit having an inlet for receiving the hydrocarbon stream and an outlet for dispensing a mixture including the hydrocarbon and the dispersion/diluent streams; the outer conduit concentric to the inner conduit to define at least a first annular space and a second annular space; the first annular space being located downstream of the inlet of the outer conduit, the first annular space enabling formation of a thin film of the hydrocarbon stream between an outer surface of the inner conduit and an inner surface of the outer conduit; the second annular space being located downstream of the first annular space, the second annular space having a width greater than a width of the first annular space; and the inner conduit located at about the second annular space includes a first set orifices disposed on a periphery thereof for dispensing a first portion of the dispersion/diluent stream into the thin film of hydrocarbon stream to cross-shear the thin film and form the mixture including the hydrocarbon and the dispersion/diluent streams.

Present invention relates to a novel process for upgrading a residual hydrocarbon oil feedstock having a significant amount of Conradson Carbon Residue (concarbon), metals, especially vanadium and nickel, asphaltenes, sulfur impurities and nitrogen to a lighter more valuable hydrocarbon products by reducing or minimizing coke formation and by injecting fine droplets of oil soluble organo-metallic compounds at multiple elevations of the riser with varying dosing rates.

A process is disclosed for producing needle coke from heavy atmospheric distillation residues having sulfur no more than 0.7 wt %, which process involves the steps of heating the feedstock to a temperature in the range of 440 to 520&#xb0; C. for thermal cracking in a soaking column under pressure in the range of 1 to 10 kg/cmto separate the easily cokable material, separating the cracked products in a quench column and a distillation column and then subjecting the hydrocarbon fraction from the bottom of the quench column and a hydrocarbon fraction having a boiling point in the range of 380 to 480&#xb0; C. from the distillation column and/or any other suitable heavier hydrocarbon streams in a definite ratio depending on certain characteristic parameters to thermal cracking in a second soaking column at a temperature of 460 to 540&#xb0; C., pressure in the range of 2 to 20 kg/cmin presence of added quantity of steam for formation of a mesophase carbonaceous structure which on steam stripping and cooling forms a solid crystalline coke suitable for manufacturing of graphite electrode of large diameter having co-efficient of thermal expansion lower than 1.1&#xd7;10/&#xb0; C. measured on graphite artifact in the temperature range of 25 to 525&#xb0; C.
