For a communication between two UEs that passes through a network node, a total number of transmission attempts for a same set of data is divided between first and second data transmission attempt(s). The first data transmission attempt(s) are allowed to be performed from a first one of the two UEs toward the network node. The second data transmission attempt(s) are allowed to be performed from the network node or from a second network node toward a second one of the two UEs. Performance of the first and second data transmission attempt(s) is coordinated based on the division to cause communication of the set of data from the first UE to the second UE. A single network node may perform the first and second data transmission attempts, or a first network node performs the first data transmission attempts while a second network node performs the second data transmission attempts.

Allocation of transmission attempts

Eliminating or reducing transmission of common signals for enhanced spectral efficiency, improved support for heterogeneous networks, network energy saving possibilities, can be obtained by apparatuses and methods according to certain embodiments. A method for operating a user equipment can include receiving a measurement object from a network for detection of one or more predetermined type cells. A cell search can be conducted. When a predetermined type cell is found, cell specific reference signal hopping parameters can be determined. Then, radio resource management measurement can be performed from the cell specific reference signal hopping parameters.

Common reference signal configuration for carrier aggregation

Enhanced mobility for devices using a moving relay, or in a moving relay environment, may be valuable in the Long Term Evolution (LTE) of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3 GPP). In particular, enhanced mobility procedures for user equipment (UE) can be useful with respect to a moving relay and the radio access network (RAN) interface (IF) between the user equipment and the moving relay. Thus, certain embodiments can improve the mobility procedures between moving relays and macro layer (stationary nodes, for example, eNodeBs). A method according to certain embodiments can include determining, by a user equipment, a stable average of a signal characteristic of a signal from a mobile access point. The method can also include limiting handover of the user equipment based on the stable average.

Enhanced mobility for devices using moving relay

A method is disclosed that includes determining a preamble, at least a portion of which is unique to one or more user equipment for a device-to-device communication of one or more subframes on a band, and performing the device-to-device communication of the one or more subframes comprising the preamble on the band. The band could be, e.g., a lightly-licensed band, a licensed-exempt or unlicensed band, a secondary usage of a band of the licensed band, a band in TV white space, or a licensed band. Apparatus and computer program products are also disclosed.

Using unique preambles for D2D communications in LTE

Methods of power control for LTE transmissions in unlicensed bands are described. One method includes determining, at a first device (such as a LTE UE or LTE eNB), a scheduled transmission window for a LTE transmission in an unlicensed band. The transmission window indicates a time for sending the transmission in the unlicensed band. Prior to the scheduled transmission window, the method also includes determining whether a WiFi transmitter is transmitting a signal in the unlicensed band. The method also includes, in response to determining that the transmitter is transmitting in the unlicensed band, determining an adjusted transmission power for the transmission and sending the transmission (such as from an LTE UE to an LTE eNB or from an LTE eNB to an LTE UE) in the transmission window at the adjusted transmission power. Apparatus and computer readable media are also described.

Power control for LTE deployment in unlicensed band

A user equipment UE reports its UE-specific channel quality to the network. The network uses this to narrow a search space in which the UE looks for its downlink control signaling. In one embodiment the search space is defined by downlink signaling the network sends. The width of the search space may also select between types of downlink control signaling (for example, between PDCCH and E-PDCCH). In the specific examples described the poorest channel qualities result in the whole-bandwidth PDCCH being used while better channel qualities result in progressively narrower search spaces to look for an E-PDCCH.
