Methods and apparatus provide for: receiving video game data generated during the playing of a video game, the video game including at least a video and corresponding audio signal; and inputting each signal in the received video game data into a respective machine learning model and determining based on the output of each model, whether a highlight event has occurred during the playing of the video game. At least some of the frames in the video and or audio signal are then selected for inclusion in a recording of the video game gameplay, based on a determination that a highlight event has occurred and a recording is generated that includes the selected video and or audio frames. A method for training the models is also provided, along with systems for training and executing the trained models.

Method and system for generating a recording of video game gameplay

A data processing apparatus adapted to generate a recording for a content includes: input circuitry configured to obtain image data and corresponding audio data for the content, the image data including a plurality of image frames, a plurality of machine learning models including one or more first machine learning models and one or more second machine learning models, each first machine learning model configured to obtain at least a part of the image data and trained to output respective indicator data for the plurality of image frames, each second machine learning model configured to obtain at least a part of the audio data and trained to output respective indicator data for the plurality of image frames corresponding to the at least part of the audio data, where the respective indicator data associated with an image frame is indicative of an interest score for the image frame, authoring circuitry configured to select one or more groups of image frames from the plurality of image frames in dependence upon respective indicator data associated with the plurality of image frames, and recording circuitry configured to generate the recording for the content, the recording including one or more of the selected groups of image frames.

A system for identifying a user of a controller includes a controller having one or more sensors configured to detect interaction with the controller by the user and a transmitter configured to transmit telemetry data based on outputs of one or more of the sensors, a user profile unit configured to obtain user profile data for one or more user profiles, where each user profile corresponds to a respective user and the user profile data for a user profile comprises data indicative of one or more characteristic interactions by the user with the controller, and a user profile selection unit configured to select a user profile from the one or more user profiles in dependence upon a degree of match between one or more properties of the transmitted telemetry data and the data of each respective user profile, and configured to modify an output of the system responsive to the selection.

A system for obtaining image content includes a receiving unit configured to receive video frames generated during the execution of a video game at a video game playing device, a monitoring unit operable to detect at least some of the video frames as corresponding to a loading screen, a content unit configured to obtain pre-generated image content for displaying in place of or addition to the video frames identified as corresponding to loading screens, a control unit configured to receive an input from the monitoring unit, and in response said input, select pre-generated image content for displaying in place of or in addition to the video frames detected as corresponding to a loading screen, and a display unit operable to display the selected pre-generated image content in place of or in addition to the video frames detected as corresponding to a loading screen.
