A method for detecting and rating an accident involving a vehicle, the method steps being executed on a mobile device equipped with at least two sensors that is carried by the vehicle. A accident monitoring system is operated on the mobile device in such a way that the mobile device continually captures sensor data of at least two of its sensors and temporarily stores said data in a memory in the manner of a shift register and that, after the sensor data of at least one of the sensors have exceeded a threshold value stipulated for the respective sensor, a timestamp is set in the memory, the available sensor data remain stored and an accident verification routine is launched on the mobile device. The accident verification routine both evaluates the stored sensor data in such a way that a tiered significance level (severity level) is ascertained and evaluates the sensor data captured from the timestamp onwards in a time interval of predetermined length in such a way that a tiered credibility level (confidence level) is repeatedly ascertained, that the significance level (severity level) and/or the currently ascertained credibility level (confidence level) are repeatedly used in the time interval to decide either that an accident report is sent or that no accident report is sent and the accident verification routine is executed again or that the accident verification routine is terminated.

Method for detecting and evaluating an accident of a vehicle

A device includes a triggering parameter detecting component, a velocity determining component, a comparing component and a mode-determining component. The triggering parameter detecting component detects, over a predetermined period of time, a triggering parameter associated with an in-vehicle mode of operation and generates a triggering detector signal based on the triggering detected parameter over the predetermined period of time. The velocity determining component determines a velocity of the device based on the generated triggering detector signal. The comparing component generates a compared signal when the detected velocity is greater than a predetermined velocity threshold. The mode-determining component generates an in-vehicle mode signal based on the compared signal.

System and method for determining when smartphone is in vehicle

A device is provided for use with a vehicle and with a communication device. The communication device can transmit a first vehicle mode signal and a subsequent signal. The device includes a processing component, an indicator component, a transmitting component and a receiving component. The processing component can operate in a vehicle mode and can operate in a second mode. The indicator component can provide a vehicle mode indication signal when the processing component is operating in the vehicle mode. The transmitting component can transmit a second vehicle mode signal based on the vehicle mode indication signal. The receiving component can receive the first vehicle mode signal and can receive the subsequent signal. The processing component can further perform a function while in the vehicle mode and based on the first vehicle mode signal and the subsequent signal.

A device is provided for use with a database having stored therein, a plurality of signatures corresponding to a plurality of fields, respectively, wherein the plurality of fields correspond to a plurality of locations, respectively. The device includes an accessing component, a field-detecting component, a comparing component and an identifying component. The accessing component can access one of the plurality of signatures from the database. The field-detecting component can detect a first field based on a first location and can generate a detected field signature based on the detected first field. The comparing component can generate a comparison signal based on a comparison of the detected field signature and one of the plurality of signatures. The identifying component can identify the first location based on the comparison signal.

A communication device includes an arming component that can generates an arming signal based on arming activation at an arming time, an activation component that can generate an activation signal based on an activation at an activation time, a parameter establishing component that can establish a safety parameter and can generate a safety signal based on a determination of the safety parameter, a communication component that can transmit a data communication, and a disarming component that can generate a disarming signal based on a disarming activation at a disarming time The communication component can transmit the data communication based on the safety signal. A device is provided for use with a database having stored therein, a plurality of signatures corresponding to a plurality of actions, respectively. The device includes: a mode determining component that determines whether the device is in a predetermined mode; a device location determining component that determines whether the device is located in a predetermined location; a parameter detecting component operable to detect a predetermined parameter and to generate an action signature based on the detected predetermined parameter; an accessing component operable to access one of the plurality of signatures from the database; and a mode controlling component operable to modify operation of the device based on the comparison signal when said mode determining component determines that the device is operating in the predetermined mode and when the location determining component determines that the device is located in the predetermined location.

The accessing component can access the detected field signature from the database. The comparing component can generate a comparison signal. The identifying component can identify item or location based on the comparison signal. The field-detecting component can further detect a second field and generate a second detected field signature based on the detected second field. The comparing component can generate the comparison signal based on a comparison of the detected field signature and the second detected field signature.

System and method for identifying vehicle by utilizing detected magnetic field

A device is provided for use with a vehicle. The device includes a mode-determining component, a first detecting component and a second detecting component. The mode-determining component can generate an in-vehicle signal. The first detecting component can detect a first parameter and can generate a first detector signal based on the first detected parameter. The second detecting component can detect a second parameter and can generate a second detector signal based on the second detected parameter. The mode-determining component can further generate a crash mode signal based on the in-vehicle signal, the first detector signal and the second detector signal.
