A piston of an internal combustion engine may include a piston shaft and a piston head. The piston head may be provided with a closed cooling channel with a cooling medium arranged therein. The piston shaft may have a spherically round cross-sectional shape, wherein a deviation from the roundness with respect to a piston diameter may be less than 0.5 per thousand.

A method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine may include the steps of: producing a piston upper part from a first blank via a deformation process; producing a piston lower part from a second blank via at least one of a deformation process and a casting process; connecting the first blank of the piston upper part and the second blank of the piston lower part to form a piston body via a welding process; and performing at least one of a secondary machining process and a finish machining process of the piston body to produce the piston.

A cooling channel cover for a piston of an internal combustion engine may include a body having mutually opposite end faces. At least one supply element for a coolant may be received in an opening disposed in the cooling channel cover. The supply element may include an inlet region and an outlet region, and may be held on the cooling channel cover via a clipped-in latching connection. A spring tab may be disposed on the inlet region of the supply element, and/or a latching element may be disposed on the outlet region of the supply element. The spring clip may engage one of the end faces and the latching element may engage the opposite end face.

A method for producing a piston for an internal combustion engine may include the steps of: producing a piston main body from a first blank via a deformation process; producing a piston ring part from a second blank via at least one of a deformation process and a casting process; pre-machining the first blank and the second blank, and finish machining a welding surface of the first blank and a welding surface of the second blank; connecting the pre-machined first blank and the pre-machined second blank via a welding process to form a piston body; and performing at least one of a secondary machining and a finish machining of the piston body to produce the piston.

A method for the production of a piston made of steel, for an internal combustion engine, in which the upper piston part is produced using the forging method, and the lower piston part is produced using the forging or casting method, and they are subsequently welded to one another. To simplify the production method and make it cheaper, the upper piston part is forged using the method of hot forming and of cold calibration, to finish it to such an extent that further processing of the combustion bowl and of the upper cooling channel regions can be eliminated.

An annular cooling channel cover for a piston may include an elastic material body having opposing end faces. At least two opposing end regions may provide a joint gap and at least one feed element for a coolant may be received in at least one opening disposed in the cooling channel cover. The feed element may include an inlet region and an outlet region, and may be held on the cooling channel cover via a clip-on latching connection. Spring clips may be disposed on the inlet region of the feed element, and/or latching elements may be disposed on the outlet region of the feed element. The spring clips may engage one of the end faces and the latching elements may engage the opposing end face. A closure element may engage into the joint gap to close the same.

A piston of an internal combustion engine may include a piston head, a piston hub and a connecting rod having a joint end connected via an articulated connection to the piston hub. A reservoir may be provided and configured to receive splash oil for cooling the piston head. The reservoir may include at least one splash outlet directed towards the piston head. The reservoir may be arranged at the joint end of the connecting rod on a side facing towards the piston head.

A piston for an internal combustion engine includes a piston head and a piston skirt, wherein the piston head has a piston base, a circumferential ring part and, in the region of the ring part, a circumferential closed cooling channel or sealed cavity. An inner side of the piston has two lower surfaces which transform continuously in the region of the piston central axis (M) to form an arched surface. The piston skirt has piston hubs provided with hub bores which are interconnected by means of running surfaces which have inner surfaces facing the inside of the piston. Starting from the free ends of the piston skirt, inside the piston on the pressure side (DS) and/or counter pressure side (GDS), an inner surface of a running surface continuously transforms into a guiding surface for a coolant which transforms continuously on the side thereof into a lower surface.

A piston for an internal combustion engine may include an encircling ring section in a region of a piston crown. The piston may include a convection region, which has at least one cavity containing a heat transfer medium for dissipation of heat from the piston crown to an underside of the piston. The piston may include a heat insulating region, which is arranged between the ring section and the convection region and thermally insulates the ring section.

The invention relates to a method for producing a piston () for an internal combustion engine, characterized by the following method steps: producing an upper piston part () and a lower piston part () having one or more recesses (') for forming a closed cavity (); introducing a heat transfer medium (), in particular one or more alkali metals, that is solid or paste-like at ambient temperature and liquid at the intended operating temperature of the piston, into the recesses (&#x2032;) of the lower piston part () and/or of the upper piston part (), wherein the heat transfer medium () is provided in order, during the operative state of the piston (), to effect heat transport within the piston () by convection; closing the recesses to form the closed cavity () which encloses the heat transfer medium (); and connecting the upper piston part () to the lower piston part (). This enables the piston () to be produced in a simplified manner.

Method for producing a piston

The present invention relates to a method for the production of a piston (), composed of a piston upper part () and a piston lower part (), of an internal combustion engine, in which the piston upper part () is welded with the piston lower part () via a contact surface () and thereby a cooling duct (), delimited therebetween, is formed. It is essential to the invention here that for the production or keeping free of an net opening () and/or of an outlet opening () of the cooling duct () during or immediately after the welding of the piston upper part () with the piston lower part () at least one pin () is held out from the piston lower part () in the cooling duct () or is pushed therein and is drawn out again after the welding process, so that a welding bead () occurring on the welding process does not constrict a cross-section of the net opening () and/or of the outlet opening (). Hereby, the piston () can be produced at a comparatively favorable cost.

Method for the production of a piston

A piston may include a piston upper part and a piston lower part. The piston upper part may be welded via a contact surface with the piston lower part forming a cooling duct therebetween. The cooling duct may define an inlet opening and an outlet opening extending from the piston lower part in the cooling duct. A welding bead may be formed within the cooling duct at each of the inlet opening and the outlet opening.
