Methods that allow a mobile device to communicate with a wireless communications network via device-to-device communication when the device is out of range of the network are provided. One method, at a first mobile device, comprises receiving a message from a second mobile device, adding information to the message, forwarding the message to a network if a network connection is available for the first mobile device, and forwarding the message to a third mobile device if no network connection is available. Another method at a mobile device comprises receiving an indication that an emergency condition exists, sending a message from the device to a network element if a network connection between the mobile device and network element exists, and sending the message from the device to a second mobile device if no network connection between the mobile device and a network element exists. Mobile devices configured to perform these methods are also provided.

Method and system for peer-to-peer (P2P) ad-hoc location determination routing protocol

An emergency locator component for a mobile communication device enables the mobile communication device to obtain location information from other neighboring mobile devices in the event that the mobile communication device is unable to determine its own location. The mobile communication device employs a short-range radiofrequency transceiver to broadcast a request for location information to the neighboring mobile devices. A response containing location information may be received from another mobile device equipped with a similar emergency locator component. Accordingly, this technology enables mobile devices to exchange location information by setting up an ad-hoc network. The location information can be included, for example, in an emergency phone call to an emergency services call center.

Location determination for mobile devices in emergency situations

A system and method are provided to authenticate a voice in a frequency domain. A voice in the time domain is transformed to a signal in the frequency domain. The first harmonic is set to a predetermined frequency and the other harmonic components are equalized. Similarly, the amplitude of the first harmonic is set to a predetermined amplitude, and the harmonic components are also equalized. The voice signal is then filtered. The amplitudes of each of the harmonic components are then digitized into bits to form at least part of a voice ID. In another system and method, a voice is authenticated in a time domain. The initial rise time, initial fall time, second rise time, second fall time and final oscillation time are digitized into bits to form at least part of a voice ID. The voice IDs are used to authenticate a user's voice.
