Apparatus having a fiber optic tether disposed in coiled tubing for communicating information between downhole tools and sensors and surface equipment and methods of operating such equipment. Wellbore operations performed using the fiber optic enabled coiled tubing apparatus includes transmitting control signals from the surface equipment to the downhole equipment over the fiber optic tether, transmitting information gathered from at least one downhole sensor to the surface equipment over the fiber optic tether, or collecting information by measuring an optical property observed on the fiber optic tether. The downhole tools or sensors connected to the fiber optic tether may either include devices that manipulate or respond to optical signal directly or tools or sensors that operate according to conventional principles.

System and methods using fiber optics in coiled tubing

A manifold trailer and pairing system are disclosed. Methods may include pressurizing a low pressure manifold of a manifold trailer, the low pressure manifold having a first low pressure valve and a second low pressure valve; opening a selected low pressure valve of the first and second low pressure valves; detecting a first pressure on a selected pump, via a first pressure sensor, indicative of a fluid communication between the selected low pressure valve and the selected pump; detecting a second pressure associated with a main line or a wellhead; comparing the first pressure on the selected pump to the second pressure associated with the main line or the wellhead to derive a pressure differential; and engaging the selected pump if the pressure differential is within a given threshold.

Systems and methods for pairing system pumps with fluid flow in a fracturing structure

A downhole tool for use in coiled tubing well operations. The tool includes a gamma ray detector for determining well location information for an associated coiled tubing application. The well location information may relate to well depth and/or the locating and identifying of a particular side branch or lateral leg of the well. Additionally, the gamma ray detector may be utilized to monitor dynamic well conditions in real-time such as the flow of injected fluids or the effectiveness of clean out applications via the coiled tubing.

A manifold trailer and pairing system are disclosed. The pairing system has a non-transitory computer readable medium storing processor executable code. The processor executable code causes a processor to receive identification data indicative of a first low pressure valve and a second low pressure valve connected to a low pressure manifold of a manifold trailer; receive identification data indicative of a first high pressure valve and a second high pressure valve connected to a high pressure manifold of the manifold trailer; and receive identification data indicative of a plurality of pumps. The processor determines a first association indicative of a first fluid connection between the first low pressure valve and a selected pump and a second association indicative of a second fluid connection between the selected pump and a selected high pressure valve. The processor populates the non-transitory computer readable medium with information indicative of the first and second associations.

System and method of controlling manifold fluid flow

A technique involves monitoring a hydraulic system having a hydraulic pump coupled to a hydraulic motor which can be used to drive well related equipment. The system and methodology utilize sensors positioned to monitor parameters related to operation of the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic motor. A processor system is coupled to the sensors to obtain data output by the sensors. The processor system analyzes the sensor data for failure signatures that can be used to determine a failure or potential failure in the hydraulic system.

Well servicing methods and systems are described, in one embodiment comprising a pressure containment housing fluidly connected directly to a wellhead of a wellbore, and a reel positioned inside the housing on which is spooled a communication line. One method comprises introducing the communication line into the pressurized wellbore without a well control stack, the communication line being introduced and driven into the wellbore by controlling a reel, the reel being internal to a pressurized housing removably connected directly to a wellhead of the wellbore. Fluid flow may move the communication line to a desired location in the wellbore. This abstract allows a searcher or other reader to quickly ascertain the subject matter of the disclosure. Well servicing methods and systems

A method of monitoring integrity of a pump. The method may include recording timing information of the pump during operation while simultaneously sampling acoustic data with a high speed equidistant acquisition mechanism or at a rate based on the speed of the pump in operation. The acquisition of acoustic data is followed by evaluation thereof. Such techniques may improve resolution of acquired data while substantially increasing processor capacity for evaluation. A pump integrity monitor for carrying out such techniques is also described.

Pump integrity monitoring

A fiber optic based logging assembly deliverable via coiled tubing. The downhole portion of the assembly is directed to develop a logging profile of a well by way of the fiber optic line. Thus, a downhole battery may be provided with the tool. Further, opto-electric interfaces may be provided with the assembly to convert between electrical and optical communication signals. Additionally, with the reduced profile of an optical communication line through the coiled tubing portion of the assembly, an operator may elect to perform treatment applications in real-time. That is, in certain circumstances, the operator may direct a treatment application utilizing the downhole assembly in response to the developing well profile (i.e. without first requiring that the assembly be withdrawn and replaced with a solely dedicated treatment assembly).

Use of distributed temperature sensors during wellbore treatments

The invention generally relates to an apparatus and/or a method for moving an round flexible member into and out of a well bore, and particularly, to an injector with two or more gripping members which bind the outer surface of the round flexible member; two or more actuators which cause the gripping members to bind or release the round flexible member; and at least one reciprocator for translating a gripping member to move the round flexible member, or for repositioning the gripping member. A method of translating a round flexible member is also provided which includes the steps of binding the outer surface of a round flexible member with at least one gripping members by engagement with an actuator, and translating a gripping member by reciprocator to move the round flexible member.

Injector apparatus and method of use

A technique provides an orientation system combined with downhole equipment used in a well. An orientation device is mounted in the downhole equipment, e.g. a bottom hole assembly, for actuation during angular displacement of the downhole equipment. A sensor is mounted to cooperate with the orientation device in detecting the angular displacement.

System and method for measuring an orientation of a downhole tool

A method of enhancing acoustic pump data for monitoring of pump condition in operation. The enhancement may be in the form of a substantial reduction in the amount of data to be processed by firmware to a much more manageable level. This may be achieved through pre-filtering of acquired acoustic data, computing frequency momentum, and by application of a median filter to the acoustic data. Regardless, a thresholding technique that uses features vector including but not limited to double-threshold derived from statistics of enhanced amplitudes, may be employed whereby enhanced acoustic data is boiled down to a series of potential acoustic events of particular widths. These widths may represent a duration of each acoustic event and be checked for correlation with the speed of the operating speed of the pump. Acoustic events that correlate with an operating speed of the pump may represent an unhealthy condition of the pump such as where the width is about the duration of one half of a cycle of the pump and a leaky pump valve presents itself for this same period of time.

Technique for acoustic data analysis

Methods and systems for investigating downhole conditions are described. One method comprises inserting a tubular into a wellbore, the tubular comprising a tubular section having upper and lower fluid injection ports, and having a thermally insulated fiber optic cable section positioned inside the tubular extending to the upper fluid injection port, and a non-insulated fiber optic cable section positioned outside of the tubular section and extending at least between the upper and lower fluid injection ports; positioning the tubular section having upper and lower fluid injection ports near a suspected thief or pay zone; injecting a fluid through the upper fluid injection port; determining a first differential temperature profile between the upper and lower fluid injection ports; injecting a fluid through the lower fluid injection port; and determining a second differential temperature profile at least between the upper and lower fluid injection ports.
