The present invention relates to a modified Cullin1 gene which leads to a plant type that enables efficient cultivation and/or is suitable for situations that require smaller portions, or reduces the labour, time and expenses involved with storing, handling and transporting of redundant plant leaves. The invention also relates to plants comprising the modified Cullin1 gene. The modified Cullin1 gene provides plants with a compact growth phenotype, i.e. comprising shorter internode length and/or a smaller leaf area when compared to plants not comprising the modified Cullin1 gene. The invention further relates to the use of the modified Cullin1 gene for the identification and development of a plant showing a compact growth phenotype, i.e. comprising shorter internodes and/or a smaller leaf area.

Modified CULLIN1 gene

The present invention relates to a plant with a copy number variation (CNV) of a 9-LOX5 gene, wherein the CNV has at least 2 copies of a 9-LOX5 gene, wherein the 9-LOX5 gene comprises SEQ ID NO: 1, or a sequence having at least 60% sequence identity to SEQ ID NO: 1, and wherein the presence of the CNV leads to powdery mildew resistance in the plant. The invention further relates to nucleic acid molecules, methods for selecting powdery mildew resistant plants, the plants thus obtained therefrom, and seeds and parts thereof.

Modified Cullin1 gene

The present invention relates to modified RDR1 gene capable of conferring virus resistance to a plant and/or increasing virus resistance in a plant, which modification results in enhanced expression of the RDR1 gene, and wherein the modification is selected from a modification that increases the mRNA level of the RDR1 gene; a modification that increases the level of the RDR1 protein; and/or a modification that increases the activity of the RDR1 protein, as compared to a non-modified wild-type RDR1 gene. The modification may comprise a modification upstream of the coding sequence of the RDR1 gene, such as a modification of a regulatory element, preferably of a cis-acting regulatory element. The modified regulatory element is for example selected from a transcription factor binding site for a transcriptional repressor, the modification of which leads to reduction or absence of transcriptional repression; and/or a transcription factor binding site for a transcriptional activator, the modification of which leads to induction or enhancement of transcription; and/or a microRNA binding site, the modification of which leads to reduction or absence of gene repression; and/or a small RNA sequence, the modification of which leads to reduction or absence of gene repression.
