A base station (BS) and method for controlling handover in a wireless communication system. The BS serves a first cell in a first cell layer overlapping with a second cell layer, and the first cell has a different distribution of configured amounts of uplink and downlink resources than a second cell in the second cell layer. The BS monitors amounts of uplink and downlink resources utilized by a user equipment (UE) in the first cell and adjusts at least one parameter controlling handover of the UE to the second cell based on the resources utilized by the UE, and on information regarding configured amounts of uplink and downlink resources in the first and second cells. This increases the likelihood that the UE will be served by one of the first and second cells in which the configured amounts of resources better matches the amounts of resources utilized by the UE.

A method for cell selection comprises obtaining of user equipment specific information for a user equipment that is present in a first cell of a first base station. The user equipment specific information comprises information of a prevailing radio situation and information of a present decoding performance. A present capability of the user equipment for handling increased interference and a measure of a cell selection offset required to cover the user equipment by a second cell is estimated from the user equipment specific information. It is decided on modifying a cell selection offset for handover between the first cell and the second cell, in dependence on the estimated present capability of the user equipment for handling increased interference and the cell selection offset required to cover the user equipment by the second cell.

An interference problem for UE retransmissions at the end of a Sequence Frame Number pattern, in a system wherein a macro base station () employs Almost Blank Subframes (ABS) to avoid interference with a micro base station (), is avoided by first recognizing that an ABS pattern will reset at the end of a SFN period. In some embodiments, in response to this recognition, the micro base station () may command () a UE to alter a transmission to the micro base station (), to improve the probability of accurate reception&#x2014;such as by increasing its transmit power during the relevant time slots, or utilizing a more robust data correction encoding scheme. In other embodiments, in response to recognizing the change in the ABS pattern, the macro base station () may schedule () other UE to a PRB where they cause lower interference, or may avoid scheduling macro cell UEs in the same time slot.

Method and apparatus for handling the TDD tail problem for an ABS pattern

The present invention relates to a user equipment and a radio base station, and to related methods of enabling the radio base station to affect an energy saving in the system during a connection between the user equipment and the radio base station according to a priority level of the energy saving.
