A method and systems for determining a location of a Low-Cost Internet Base Station (LCIB) are described. An LCIB may engage in communication with a macro network using a wireless communication interface, such that the macro network assigns the LCIB to operate as a mobile station on a particular active set of one or more particular sectors. The LCIB may transmit data indicative of the particular active set to the macro network using a backhaul connection to the macro network. Responsive to the LCIB transmitting the data indicative of the particular active set to the macro network, the LCIB may receive a location corresponding to the particular active set from the macro network via the backhaul connection to the macro network.

Alternative location source for low-cost internet base station systems when satellite-based positioning system coverage is unavailable

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for augmenting call data information to determine a location of a wireless communication device. In a particular embodiment, a method provides receiving wireless signals transmitted from a plurality of base stations and determining signal strengths for at least some of the wireless signals. The method further provides identifying at least three geographically diverse ones of the base stations having signal strengths that satisfy a location-determination strength threshold. The method further provides transmitting base station identifiers and associated signal strengths for the geographically diverse base stations.

Augmentation of call data information to determine a location of a wireless communication device

A data processing system determines the geographic accuracy of device locations used by applications executed by wireless communication devices. The system processes communication data for the wireless communication devices to individually correlate the device locations with the applications that used the device locations and with the wireless communication devices that executed the applications. The system processes the device locations for pairs of the wireless communication devices and the applications to determine geographic accuracy data for the pairs. The system aggregates the geographic accuracy data for individual ones of the applications to generate geographic accuracy metrics for the individual applications.

A method and apparatus to help detect that a particular location determination process is unreliable and to help exclude location fixes established with that location determination process from being used as a basis to provide a location-based service. In accordance with the disclosure, a server may receive at least three location fixes for a mobile station, all corresponding with each other in time and each established with a different location determination process, and the server may determine that one of the location fixes is relatively far away from the other location fixes and therefore that the location determination process used to establish that location fix is unreliable. In response to determining that the location determination process is unreliable, the server or another entity may then exclude location fixes established with that location determination process from being used as a basis to provide a location-based service.

Method and apparatus for managing use of location determination

Systems, methods, and software for identifying dormant wireless communication devices in wireless communication systems are provided herein. In one example, a method of operating a wireless communication system is provided. The method includes providing wireless access to communication services to wireless communication devices, where the wireless communication devices are associated with at least a first paging zone. The method also includes instructing the wireless communication devices associated with the first paging zone to associate with a temporary paging zone identifier and responsively receiving indications of the temporary paging zone identifier transferred by at least a portion of the wireless communication devices. The method also includes identifying dormant ones of the wireless communication devices based on which of the ones of the wireless communication devices transfer the indications, and instructing the wireless communication devices associated with the temporary paging zone identifier to resume association with the first paging zone.

A wireless communication system has wireless base stations that serve wireless communication devices located in a plurality of wireless communication sectors. The wireless communication devices have wireless device types. The wireless base stations generate performance data that characterizes the performance of the wireless device types in the wireless communication sectors. A data processing system processes the performance data to associate an abnormal condition with one of the wireless device types in one of the wireless communication sectors. The data processing system generates notice data for the one or more wireless device types associated with an abnormal condition. The wireless base stations broadcast the notice data in a Long Term Evolution (LTE) System Information Block (SIB). The notice data identifies the wireless device type. The wireless communication devices decode the LTE SIB to identify the notice data and the wireless device type. If the wireless communication device comprises the wireless device type identified in the notice data, the wireless communication device configures the wireless communication device based on the notice data.

A data processing system estimates hidden (off-net) wireless network users based on wireless communication network usage. The system processes wireless network usage data to estimate a first amount of frequent off-net users at a location in a time period based on past frequent on-net users who were at the location in past time periods at a rate above a frequent user threshold. The system processes the first amount and the wireless network usage data to estimate a second amount of infrequent off-net users at the location in the time period. The system process the first amount of the frequent off-net users and the second amount of the infrequent off-net users to estimate a total amount of off-net users at the location in the time period.

In a wireless communication network, wireless communication devices receive user instructions indicating geographic control of associated user data sets. The wireless communication devices translate the user instructions into geo-control tags for the associated user data sets and include the geo-control tags in the associated user data sets. The wireless communication devices exchange wireless signals transporting the user data sets and their geo-control tags with wireless access points. The wireless access points individually control wireless egress of the user data sets based on their geo-control tags.

Systems, methods and computer-readable media for detecting potential data fraud in a telecommunications environment are provided. The methods include referencing a characteristic associated with a device, where the characteristic provides an indication of a device type for a device. From the referenced characteristic, a device type is predicted. A comparison is made between the predicted device type and an expected device type that is identified based on the credentials being used by the device. Thereafter, a determination that the device is potentially performing data fraud can be made based on whether predicted device type matches the expected device type.

A frequent location determination system to identify a location frequented by a wireless communication device comprises a processing system. The processing system is configured to process network usage data for the wireless communication device to identify a cell sector in a wireless communication network that is used by the wireless communication device more than a plurality of other cell sectors in the wireless communication network. The processing system is further configured to process user data transferred by the wireless communication device from the cell sector to identify Global Positioning System (GPS) data, and to process the GPS data to determine a subset of the GPS data that indicates locations in the cell sector. The processing system is further configured to process the subset of the GPS data that indicates the locations in the cell sector to determine a frequent location of the wireless communication device within the cell sector.

Embodiments disclosed herein provide systems and methods for determining whether a wireless device has departed a femtocell. In a particular embodiment, a method provides determining one or more wireless devices that are registered with a wireless femtocell and are not currently exchanging communications with the wireless femtocell. If a control signal from at least one wireless base station is available, the method provides receiving the control signal and processing the control signal to determine whether a portion of the wireless devices are registered with the at least one wireless base station. The method further provides indicating that the portion of the wireless devices registered with the at least one wireless base station are no longer registered with the wireless femtocell.

The invention is directed to methods for predicting future locations based on time clustering. Historical location data from a particular period of time is used to identify locations or places. The period of time is divided into even time slots. For each time slot, a probability distribution is computed by calculating a probability that the mobile device is located at each identified location during that time slot. The time slots are clustered into time slot groups based on similar probability distributions. For each time slot group, a probability distribution is calculated representing a probability that the mobile device is present at each location during the period of time defined by the time slot group.
