A base station may configure an access beam group to include one or more antenna beams for communicating with one or more user equipment (UE). The base station may configure a backhaul beam group to include one or more antenna beams for communicating with one or more other base stations. The base station may monitor network traffic associated with the access beam group and/or the backhaul beam group, and may determine that the network traffic satisfies a condition. The base station may modify the access beam group and/or the backhaul beam group to add or remove at least one antenna beam based on determining that the network traffic satisfies the condition.

System and method for controlling the distribution of antenna beams between an access network and a backhaul link based on network traffic conditions

Systems, methods, and devices for assigning user equipment to frequency bands on multiband advanced wireless communication networks. The system may include a multiband controller configured to obtain signal quality indicators from user equipment devices for signals received by the user equipment devices from a first remote radio head for a first frequency band having a maximum frequency greater than 24 GHz and a second remote radio head having a minimum frequency at least 2 GHz greater than the maximum frequency, and in response to the signal quality indicators, issue a command to a user equipment device included in the user equipment devices and operating in the first frequency band to switch to operating in the second frequency band.

Band assignment for user equipment on multiband advanced wireless communications networks

A base station includes an antenna to receive a first frequency band associated with first signals carrying machine-to-machine (M2M) data, and a second frequency band associated with second signals carrying user equipment (UE) data; a radio frequency interface to connect to the antenna, and configured to receive the first signals and the second signals; at least one digital front end to generate, based on the first signals, first time-aligned symbols, generate, based on the second signals, second time-aligned symbols, store the first time-aligned symbols at a first portion of a buffer, and store the second time-aligned symbols at a second portion of the buffer; and a processor to convert, based on contents stored at the first portion of the buffer, the first time-aligned symbols into the M2M data, and convert, based on contents stored at the second portion of the buffer, the second time-aligned symbols into the UE data.

Network sharing scheme for machine-to-machine (M2M) network

Variable bitrate ('VBR')-based applications may use physical layer metrics, associated with a radio access network ('RAN'), in order to select a data rate and/or codec at which to send and/or receive data. Such VBR-based applications may include voice call application, video streaming applications, or the like. An application programming interface (&#x201c;API&#x201d;) between the physical layer and the application layer of a user device may facilitate the analysis of the physical layer metrics of the RAN. The RAN may also, or alternatively, provide physical layer metrics to the user device (e.g., via control signaling). The RAN may enforce constraints on maximum or minimum data rates, and/or may specify codecs that should be used.

Methods of adapting codec data rate based on radio condition to improve LTE service coverage and capacity

A method includes broadcasting, from an evolved node b (eNodeB), a plurality of Public Land Mobile Networks (PLMN) identifiers (IDs). The plurality of PLMN-IDs include at least one PLMN-ID for a data intensive network and at least one M-PLMN-ID for machine type communications (MTC) in a short messaging network. The method includes receiving a request to transmit MTC data from a MTC device and determining whether the MTC device includes the at least one M-PLMN-ID. The method includes determining whether the MTC data is in a class required to be sent by the data intensive network. The method also includes determining whether the message size is less than the length of structured small data (SSD), and sending the message via the short messaging network in response to a determination that the message size is less than the length of the SSD.

Blended data transmission network for machine type communications

A mobile device may obtain wireless network connectivity from a local telecommunications provider by replacing a card in a mobile device associated with the user. In one implementation, a method may include receiving identification information relating to a mobile device; determining, based on the identification information, that the mobile device is compatible with a wireless network; transmitting, based on the determination that the mobile device is compatible with the wireless network, a Voice over Long Term Evolution (VoLTE) client application to the mobile device, the VoLTE client application providing functionality, for the mobile device, relating to usage of VoLTE services in the wireless network; and communicating, with the mobile device and the VoLTE client application, to provide one or more VoLTE services to the mobile device.

Installation of a voice client for roaming devices in a wireless network

A base station includes an antenna to receive frequency bands that include a first band associated with first signals carrying machine-two-machine (M2M) data and a second band associated with second signals carrying user equipment (UE) data. The base station further includes a baseband unit (BBU) that includes: a radio frequency (RF) interface configured to receive the first signals and the second signals, a digital front end (DFE) configured to generate first symbols based on the first signals and second symbols based on the second signals, a symbol processor configured to convert the first symbols into the M2M data and the second symbols into the UE data, and one or more processors configured to forward the M2M data to a first device and the UE data to a second device that differs from the first device.

User devices may search for cellular networks that provide the best available service, such as Long-Term Evolution ('LTE') networks. If such a network is unavailable, the user device may connect to a different network, such as a Code Division Multiple Access 2000 1X network. When connected to the 1X network, the user device may not attempt to search for the LTE network unless the user device enters an idle mode, even if the LTE network becomes available while connected to the 1X network. Systems and/or methods, described herein, may 'force' the user device into idle mode, while the user device is actively communicating via the 1X network, so that the user device may search for the LTE network. Forcing the user device into idle mode may include interrupting communications, which may include causing traffic, output by network applications of the user device, to not be transmitted from the user device.

Restoring connectivity of a user device to an LTE network

Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services may be provided to a roaming mobile device, even when the home network of the mobile device does not provide VoLTE service. In one implementation, one or more devices in a network may determine based on a mobile device attaching to a network as a roaming device for the network, a home network of the mobile device. The devices may further determine whether the home network, associated with the mobile device, provides VoLTE services; transmit, based on the determination that the home network does not provide VoLTE services, a VoLTE client application to the mobile device, the VoLTE client application providing functionality, for the mobile device, relating to usage of VoLTE services in the network. The devices may further communicate with the mobile device and the VoLTE client application, to provide one or more VoLTE services to the mobile device.

A first network device receives an authentication request, from a second network device, to authenticate a user device and a first over-the-top application, stored on the user device, to determine whether to apply a level of quality of service to the first over-the-top application. The first network device authenticates the user device, based on the authentication requested. The first network device authenticates the first over-the-top application, based on the authentication request. The first network device sends an authentication result, based on the authentication of the user device and the first over-the-top application, to the second network device; and the second network device initiates, based on the authentication result, a process to apply a level of quality of service to information sent between the first over-the-top application and a provider associated with the first over-the-top application.

Quality of service application

A user equipment (UE) provides for display, to a user, information identifying available over-the-top (OTT) services provided via voice-over-Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE), and receives, from the user, a selection of a particular OTT service of the available OTT services. The UE receives, from the user, information identifying a selected contact associated with the particular OTT service, and determines whether a particular UE associated with the selected contact is a VoLTE capable device or a non-VoLTE capable device. The UE provides a call to the particular UE, via a LTE network and an Internet protocol (IP) Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network, when the particular UE is a VoLTE capable device.

Over-the-top (OTT) video/voice configuration

A method of multi-user detection in a given uplink and downlink time slot in a software-defined receiver which includes filtering and sampling a received signal; forming a block-banded matrix A of the sampled signals; and solving {circumflex over (d)}=Ty, where T=(AA), y=Ax. The methods of solving for the matrix T includes a) computing Cholesky factors of the matrix T by approximating using the block-banded property of the matrix T and A; b) Schur decomposition for Cholesky factors of the matrix T and approximating the lower triangular Cholesky factor matrix R using block Toeplitz property of matrix T; or c) Fourier Transformation.

Base station software for multi-user detection uplinks and downlinks and method thereof

A method and apparatus for reducing the information error rate of a communication network. The apparatus comprises a selector device coupled to a Framer and to an Interleaver. The selector device is configured to receive system information and the Framer is configured to receive user information. The apparatus is coupled to equipment which operate the communication network based on system parameters. The apparatus and method of the present invention improve the coding and effectively increase the interleaving depth applied to user information thus reducing the information error rate of the communication network without having to alter or modify any of the system parameters.
