Improved techniques for disaster recover within storage area networks are disclosed. Embodiments include replicating a LIF of a primary cluster on a secondary cluster. LIF configuration information is extracted from the primary cluster. A peer node from a secondary cluster is located. One or more ports are located on the located peer node that match a connectivity of the LIF from the primary cluster. One or more ports are identified based upon one or more filtering criteria to generate a candidate port list. A port from the candidate port list is selected based at least upon a load of the port. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques for LIF placement in san storage cluster synchronous disaster recovery

One or more techniques and/or computing devices are provided for synchronous replication. For example, synchronous replication relationships are established between a first storage object (e.g., a file, a logical unit number (LUN), a consistency group, etc.), hosted by a first storage controller, and a plurality of replication storage objects hosted by other storage controllers. In this way, a write operation to the first storage object is implemented in parallel upon the first storage object and the replication storage objects in a synchronous manner, such as using a zero-copy operation to reduce overhead otherwise introduced by performing copy operations. Reconciliation is performed in response to a failure so that the first storage object and the replication storage objects comprise consistent data. Failed write operations and replication write operations are retried, while enforcing a single write semantic. Dependent write order consistency is enforced for dependent write operations, such as overlapping write operations.

Synchronous replication

A storage area network (SAN)-attached storage system architecture is disclosed. The storage system provides strongly consistent distributed storage communication protocol semantics, such as SCSI target semantics. The system includes a mechanism for presenting a single distributed logical unit, comprising one or more logical sub-units, as a single logical unit of storage to a host system by associating each of the logical sub-units that make up the single distributed logical unit with a single host visible identifier that corresponds to the single distributed logical unit. The system further includes mechanisms to maintain consistent context information for each of the logical sub-units such that the logical sub-units are not visible to a host system as separate entities from the single distributed logical unit.

Techniques for LIF placement in SAN storage cluster synchronous disaster recovery

Methods and systems for a distributed database cluster storing a plurality of replicas of a databases are provided. One method includes locating by a processor, a timestamp of a last stored record in a backup copy of the database from a plurality of logical partitions for a point in time restore operation; identifying by the processor, an operation log for each logical partition with the last stored record, the operation log providing transaction details associated with the database; splitting by the processor, the operation log for each logical partition by ignoring transactions that occurred prior to the timestamp of the last stored record; and using by the processor, the split operation log for restoring the database to the point in time.

Archive log management for distributed database clusters

Improved techniques for disaster recovery of storage service accessible through storage area networks are disclosed. Embodiments include establishing peer relationships between nodes of primary and secondary computing clusters. Configuration information is replicated in near synchronous manner from a primary cluster and used to configure a secondary cluster in a similar manner. Host data is replicated in synchronous manner for all the storage devices and LUNs within them. The secondary cluster is kept updated continuously with configuration information and user data in LUNs on storage devices such that a host may be served data from the secondary cluster when the primary cluster experiences a disaster or failure. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Techniques for SAN storage cluster synchronous disaster recovery

Various embodiments are generally directed an apparatus and method for receiving an event notification for a pair of cluster nodes having a first cluster node and a second cluster node, the event notification indicating an occurrence of a takeover event or a giveback event. Further, various embodiments may include suspending copying of information from a source logical unit to a target logical unit, transferring one or more processes from the first cluster node to the second cluster node and resuming importation of information from the source logical unit to the target logical unit.

Techniques for importation of information to a storage system

Data consistency and availability can be provided at the granularity of logical storage objects in storage solutions that use storage virtualization in clustered storage environments. To ensure consistency of data across different storage elements, synchronization is performed across the different storage elements. Changes to data are synchronized across storage elements in different clusters by propagating the changes from a primary logical storage object to a secondary logical storage object. To satisfy the strictest RPOs while maintaining performance, change requests are intercepted prior to being sent to a filesystem that hosts the primary logical storage object and propagated to a different managing storage element associated with the secondary logical storage object.
