A network configuration having various network elements and user equipments configured to authenticate web access requests is disclosed. Upon receipt of web addresses from various subscribers, the web addresses such as online advertisements are stored in a memory. The network traffic in the communication network is monitored in accordance with the web addresses stored in the memory. After detecting a website assess request such as a click of an online advertisement, an authentication record which authenticates the origin of the network equipment issuing the request. The authentication record is forwarded to a subscription partner via a predefined messaging mechanism.

Methods and apparatus for authenticating identity of web access from a network element

A method and apparatus for providing load balancing of subscriber session in a multi-slot gateway employing utilization counts are disclosed. A process of load balancing is configured to increase the session count when a subscription or subscriber session is created in a line card coupled with an active slot. The utilization count associated with the active slot is incremented when the value of session count reaches a predefined session value such as 100,000. After updating an active slot table associated with the active slot in accordance with slot numbers and utilization counts, the content of active slot table is copied to another active slot table associated with a second active slot.

Methods and apparatus for providing distributed load balancing of subscriber sessions in a multi-slot gateway

A network configuration capable of prioritizing and categorizing paging messages using a deep packet inspection ('DPI') idle mode agent ('IMA') is disclosed. In one embodiment, upon redirecting a downstream packet stream to a DPI agent after discovery of destination end user (&#x201c;EU&#x201d;) equipment is in an idle mode, the legitimacy of the downstream packet stream is determinate in accordance with previously stored information. The downstream packet stream is subsequently categorized to a high priority paging category, a medium priority paging category, or a low priority paging category in response to the legitimacy of the downstream packet stream.

Methods and apparatus for improving idle mode performance using deep packet inspection (DPI) idle mode agent

A network configuration capable of using a paging activity sink to aggregate and analyze flood of paging messages during an idle mode is disclosed. In one embodiment, a process using the paging activity sink is able to detect an idle mode of end user ('EU') equipment in a communication network. Upon detecting a downstream push data such as push mail addressing to the EU equipment indicating a pending message, a predefined portion of data from the first downstream push data is copied or duplicated to form a copy of paging announcement. While sending the downstream push data to the EU equipment, the process forwards the copy of paging announcement to a network element ('NE') such as a paging activity server for analyzing paging activities.

Methods and apparatus for identifying paging activities during idle mode

A method and apparatus for network accessing configured to prefix filtering one or more wildcard identity for an International Mobile Subscriber Identity ('IMSI') application is disclosed. Upon receiving a request of a new rule with system identification ('SID') for network access, a process of wildcard prefixing is able to identify a wildcard in a predefined field of the SID. The SID, in one example, is an IMSI. After retrieving a specific prefix in accordance with the wildcard, the wildcard is replaced with the specific prefix in the predefined field of the SID to form a modified rule. The predefined field of the SID can be a field for mobile country code (&#x201c;MCC&#x201d;), mobile network code (&#x201c;MNC&#x201d;), or mobile subscriber identification number (&#x201c;MSIN&#x201d;). The process subsequently inserts the modified rule into a memory structure.

Methods and apparatus for prefix filtering of international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) wildcard application

A network configuration and method of delivering targeted advertisement during an audio broadcasting using a targeted radio advertisement manager ('TRAM') are disclosed. A TRAM process for delivering targeted advertisement ('AD') is able to receive a packet carrying identification (&#x201c;ID&#x201d;) identifying a radio and a time stamp associated with a tune-in broadcast station via a cellular communication network. After identifying at least one user associated with the radio, a user preference is determined in accordance with the user. After generating a set of targeted ads based on user preference, the set of targeted ads is forwarded to the radio. The targeted ads are selectively disseminated during commercial intervals between radio broadcasting in accordance with a predefined broadcasting schedule.

Methods and apparatus for delivering targeted advertising for radio listeners

A method and apparatus for assigning the same sequence number ('SN') to multiple messages using a global index pool and non-standard source ports ('NSPs') are disclosed. After generating a global index pool containing multiple indexes, the process, in one embodiment, generates a set of NSPs for a network device. Upon creating a first SN for a general packet radio service tunneling protocol (&#x201c;GTP&#x201d;) message between peer-to-peer communications, the SN is stored in a first field of a first index. The process subsequently inserts a socket address used for indexing or addressing one of the NSPs in a second field of the first index.

Upon receiving downstream traffic addressing to end user (&#x201c;EU&#x201d;) equipment in a communication network, the process, in one embodiment, is able to identify forwarding action by comparing the downstream traffic with content of predefined list of a forwarding table. The downstream traffic is directed to an inline DPI agent or DPI IMA if the EU equipment is in idle mode in accordance with comparison between the downstream traffic and the forwarding table. The process categorizes the downstream traffic to a high priority paging category when the downstream traffic matches with one of legitimate push applications stored in a list of legitimate push applications.
