Medical device or instrument for diagnosing pressure ulcers using optical reflectance spectroscopy. The device may comprise a tip and a controller. The tip is pressed against the skin of the patient and collects the optical reflectance data. The controller processes the data to determine whether there exists a pressure ulcer and, if there is one, its depth. The tip may also include a pressure sensor for sensing the pressure at which the tip is applied to the patient's skin.

Medical device for diagnosing pressure ulcers

An automated infant massager system that monitors an infant's physical, physiological and behavioral response to the massage and can adjust the intensity of the massage and massager duration settings based on the responses of the infant and/or information from a user, preferably autonomously. A processor, which is operatively associated with the infant massager, coordinates overall operations and functions of the infant massager, as well as receiving information regarding the infant's physical, behavioral, and physiological responses to the massage. The user input through the remote receiver transmitter, and/or an associated bar code/radio-frequency identification (RFID) scanner, and/or direct communications with the processor may be employed. In a further embodiment of the present invention, a plurality of infant massaging units are controlled in network fashion by means of a processor and router, thereby permitting one or more infant massagers to be controlled by one or more users and allows one or more automated infant massagers to communicate and interface with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.

Automated infant massager

An automated infant massager has a base for supporting the infant and a plurality of first movable massage elements structured to underlie a portion of the infant. At least one motor is employed for effecting reciprocating movement of the first movable massage element. A plurality of second movable massage elements is provided for massaging the arms and legs of the infant. A plurality of third movable elements is provided within a head support for massaging portions of the infant's head, and a plurality of fourth movable massage elements are provided for massaging the infant's shoulders. The infant massager may, in one embodiment, be structured to receive and massage a premature infant, and in another embodiment, may be structured to receive and massage a full-term infant.
