An example computing device includes: a three-dimensional (3D) sensor configured to capture point cloud data from a field of view; an auxiliary sensor configured to capture a reference depth measurement corresponding to a surface within the field of view; a processor interconnected with the 3D sensor and the auxiliary sensor, the processor configured to: control the 3D sensor and the auxiliary sensor to capture the point cloud data and the reference depth measurement; select a region of the point could data including a position of the reference depth measurement; determine a representative depth value of the region of the point cloud data to compare to the reference depth measurement; determine whether the representative depth value is within a similarity threshold to the reference depth measurement; and determine, based on whether the representative depth value is within the similarity threshold to the reference depth measurement, whether to use the point cloud data for a dimensioning operation.

System and method for detecting calibration of a 3D sensor

A computing device includes: a three-dimensional (3D) sensor configured to capture point cloud data from a field of view (FOV); an auxiliary sensor configured to capture reference depth measurements corresponding to a surface within the FOV; a controller connected with the 3D sensor and the auxiliary sensor, the controller configured to: detect a reference depth capture condition; when the reference depth capture condition satisfies a quality criterion, control the auxiliary sensor to capture a reference depth corresponding to the surface within the FOV; and initiate, based on the captured reference depth, generation of corrective data for use at the 3D sensor to capture the point cloud data.

Three-dimensional sensor acuity recovery assistance

A method of dimensioning an object includes: projecting, from a plurality of laser emitters disposed on a dimensioning device and having a predefined spatial arrangement forming a plane, respective laser beams onto a surface of the object, the laser beams oriented parallel to each other; controlling an image sensor of the dimensioning device, simultaneously with the projecting, to capture image data representing the surface and projections of the laser beams on the surface; detecting projection pixel coordinates in the image data representing the projections of the laser beams on the surface; detecting edge pixel coordinates in the image data representing edges of the surface; and determining a dimension of the surface based on the projection pixel coordinates, the edge pixel coordinates, and the predefined spatial arrangement.

Method and apparatus for dimensioning objects

Spaced-apart light spots are projected in a light pattern on a target surface lying in a target plane. A range spot is projected at a position on the target surface to find a target distance to the target surface. An image of the target surface, light pattern, and range spot is captured along an imaging axis that is perpendicular to an imager plane of an imager. A controller determines an angular relationship between the imager and target planes based on the light pattern in the captured image, determines a scale relationship between the target surface and the imager based on the position of the range spot in the captured image, displays a compensated image of the target surface that is corrected in tilt by the angular relationship and in scale by the scale relationship, and determines dimensions of the target surface based on dimensions of the displayed compensated image.

Arrangement for, and method of, remotely dimensioning generally planar, target surfaces of objects

A method and apparatus for detecting touch input at a touch sensor is provided. The touch sensor comprises a plurality of row traces, a plurality of column traces and an intersection corresponding to an identified row trace of the plurality of row traces and an identified column trace of the plurality of column traces. The touch sensor also includes at least one driver for driving the plurality of column traces and at least one reader for reading the plurality of row traces. The drivers and the readers scan the identified intersection by entering into a with-floating scan state, reading a first value for the identified row trace, entering into a without-floating scan state and reading a second value for the identified row trace. The presence of a touch input is accordingly determined based on the first and second values.

Touch sensor and method for detecting touch input

A method and apparatus for identifying an edge of a target object using laser distance measurement. The method comprises rotating a laser distance measuring head in intervals of a predetermined angle in a first direction. Further, at each step of rotation, directing a scan beam onto the target object at a point of incidence and measuring a distance between the laser distance measuring head and the point of incidence. When a difference between a measured distance at a first step of rotation and a measured distance at a second step of rotation exceeds beyond a predetermined threshold value, identifying, that an edge of the target object has occurred at the point of incidence of the scan beam corresponding to the second step of rotation, wherein the second step of rotation precedes the first step of rotation.
